London and Middlesex / Re: London [Robert and Susan Kimber] 1841 onwards
« on: Saturday 31 March 12 12:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi I may be able to shed some light on Susan Stutely who married Robert Kimber in 1841. She was born 1801, father Joseph Stutely. She had previously married Charles Brissenden in 1832 and had a daughter Emma Brissenden born 1833 in Sheerness, Sheppey.  Robert and Susan (baker in Sheerness High Street) had Susan Kimber in 1841 and Sarah Kimber in 1843. Susan Kimber married Atrchibald Forster in 1861.  Robert Kimber died Sheerness in 1861 and Susan Kimber (nee Stutely) died in Sheerness in 1866.

I therefore don't think this Susan Stutely is the one baptised in Queenborough in 1829. She may have been daughter of one of Susan's sibling's?  When I have time I will try and check the parish registers and 1841 census which I hold.

Hope this helps clarify a bit. Nick Kimber

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Sheerness parish records
« on: Wednesday 31 January 07 20:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Sus

Sheerness would come under parish of Minster, Ilse of Sheppey, Kent; have checked Minster parish baptism records (1569-1916) and nothing for/similar to Sursham.

Can't see Sursham's on 1841 census, but John and Mary are on 1851 census in Norfolk - but no John.

Devon / Brimfield/Bromfield Name change
« on: Wednesday 26 July 06 09:51 BST (UK)  »
I have tracked John Wills Brimfield back to Heavitree in Exeter (1841 census).  I have found parents John Brimfield b1784 Heavitree and Sarah Wills b1799 Bovey Tracey, and traced these further back.

However the the Brimfield line appears to change name to Bromfield. This name appears common on Devon, whereas there are no brimfields (these come from Worcester area).

Was it common for spelling of a name to change like this (lack of writing or accent I suppose), or should I start afresh ? Grateful for any advice.

Thanks

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Lookup ROYLE Lostock Gralam
« on: Thursday 09 March 06 18:57 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Peter

According to her marriage certificate, James ROYLE was a labourer - not a lot to go on I'm afraid. Perhaps her father died before 1841.  I get Lostock Gralam as her birth from later census - she married John Steele in 1855.

Thanks for help, Nick K

Cheshire Lookup Requests / 1841 Lookup ROYLE Lostock Gralam

Grateful for 1841 lookup for James ROYLE.

His daughter Mary Ann ROYLE was born in Lostock Gralam in 1827, and she is with her aunt & her family in Lostock Gralam in 1951, so I assume her faily would have been in Lostock in 1841.

Many thanks

Allan & CP

Many thanks for this - the Harrietsham link of a James Davis with a son William looks promising - also the lack of a father! I will try and check out the birth for his full name.

Kent Completed Lookup Requests / William James Davis - Dead End
« on: Tuesday 22 November 05 20:47 GMT (UK)  »
Have been unable to  track down my great grandfather William James Davis.  Only record is in 1901 on Minster Sheppy census with second wife Fanny and Father -in-law William Spillett.  He is listed as b 1867 Hollingbourne. His marriage certificate gives birth as 1865 - no father listed.  I have searched all census and BDM leads but can not find him. He was known as Jim so could possibly be listed as James  in Census.

To add to confusion I cannot find his son William Arthur Davis (great uncle Bill) by his first marriage either. His marriage certificate gives his birth as 1889, I don't know where, but he lived later Sheerness. I wonder why he was not with his father when he re-married - possibly with the  first wife's family ?

Any ideas or leads gratefully received.

Please let me know where your family fit in - I assume from Henry Phillip Byrant's side of the family? Great to hear from another branch - goes to show they are not just all old names - but someone else's family! Nick Kimber
