Thanks for your time chempat. Have looked through the English 1939 register. Will try the Scottish one, although I have done research on Scotland's People website before with no luck. I suppose a divorced woman with nothing may hide away understandably.

Just got the pdf of a death certificate from GRO but it's not my grandmother. From birth year I was hoping it would be at last correct so am really disappointed.
Ancestry come up with very little when I say exact match but all sorts when I don't.  Maybe I'm doing it wrong.
Also the Halstead family tree Monica put me onto said my grandfather was a widower when he remarried but the marriage certificate said divorced so someone might know something.
Am stuck with where to look next.

After trying to find my grandmother in Scotland and on passenger lists with rootschat help, I found a death record for 1939 age 44 -she was born 1894- in Carlisle volume 100 page 677 on ancestry. How can I find out more details?
