Thanks very much Ghostwhisperer,  James did have a brother Allan but he was born in 1784.  Perhaps this Allan was an uncle but I have not been able to find the connection.  James' parents Charles Grant and Margaret Stuart are also buried in Advie Cemetery

Forgot to add that Isabel/Isabella Masson was born in about 1803

Thanks Forfarian,  I see in previous posts John's parents were William Grant and Sarah Green.  I will check the births of their other children to see if they were in Knockanbuie at the same time as James.  As far as I can work out, James didn't have a brother William so perhaps they were cousins or else just another of the very many Grant families in the area!

Looking for ancestors of my gg grandmother Isabel Masson.  She married James Grant in 1820 and had a brother, George Masson.  We know about her brother because she brought his snuffbox to Australia when she emigrated in 1839 and it is still in the family.
I have found a George Masson in the MBGRG.org database, Kinloss Abbey stone 586a, died 1838, drowned in Grangemouth dock.  On the same stone is James Masson, seaman, d 1849 and Jannet Smith (Masson).  Research into the children of James and Jannet leads me to believe they came from Findhorn.
Have you come across these Massons in your research?

Thanks for your help

My gg grandfather James Grant was a tenant at Knockanbuie from around 1820 until around 1828.  He later emigrated to Australia.  Wondering if there is a connection?
