Thank you. I've got no idea what happened to her then, she may have moved away and remarried. All the other deaths of a Nanny Nicholas don't seem to fit.

Edwin was Sampson's younger brother. It looks like John was a cousin.
It also looks possible that Nanny died in 1881 at the age of 31. What an absolute tragedy.

In Sennen Cove, Cornwall in 1876 one of my relatives Nanny Roberts daughter of Margaret "Peggy" Roberts and the late John, married one Sampson Nicholas, son of Sampson. The house the Roberts' lived in at the time was called Carlidja (or variations of) but I'm unsure if the newly married Nicholas' continued to live there.

By the time of the 1881 Census though, Sampson Jr. is deceased and Nanny is living in Carlidja as a widow with the Roberts'.

Thing is I can only find one adult Sampson/Samson Nicholas/Nicholls etc etc who died in Cornwall during this period, and he was 81. I mean it could be him, it would make an interesting tale for sure, but it's far more likely this is Sampson's father. So where is Sampson Jr? He vanishes from the records.

Also of note, there is a record of a Sampson Edwin Nicholas baptism on 19th May 1878

The infant was to die soon afterwards.

I've searched and searched but Nanny's husband remains elusive. Does anyone have any idea what could have happened to him?

Those places can be seen in 1881 census quoted.

Cornwall / Cornish name meaning?

Does anyone have any idea what the name Clydia or Clydja might mean? In the context of a possible house name from the Census. I've also seen it spelled with a K.

Several times my ancestors have listed this as a residence in Sennen Cove, Cornwall, but the closest I can find is reference to a river in Turkey?

It's possible, but begs the question why his daughters are registered births as Szkola in 1952 and 1954. One of them died very young, but the other dropped the Z by the time she was married in 1973

His son; my uncle; was born around 1945, and his birth wasn't registered as Szkola, presumably it was under his father's original surname, but I can't find it. It's very likely actually his birth was under his Mother's maiden name Jones. There is a name and age that matches my uncle under Jones from Neath. All too confusing. By 1971 and the time of his marriage, he's going by Skola too, without the Z.

I have found  a death for Wincerity Szkola born 1/4/1919 & died Neath Glamorgan 1976.
The National Probate Calendar shows his address as 27 Heol Yr Afon, Glyncorrwg, Port Talbot & he died 13/9/1976. Probate was London 28/1/1977 amount £1,389.

That matches what I have, and the background provided from my family, I have his grave details and have paid a visit myself. My uncle and I have been to the house where he grew up in Glyncorrwg many times, so I'm up to speed on those details, but thank you for the probate record!
