hi jennifer
i think you may have been in contact with my second cousin simon tombs in the past!  he has worked very hard on the holman family tree.
very happy for you to e-mail me.  it would be great to see some more info from canada.
when we visited alderney a few years ago - we found that the holmans were living at  No. 1 mount hale and someone suggested that being as joseph holman was a blacksmith he could have been working for the army who were stationed at mount hale fort - as a blacksmith.  this may explain his time on alderney.
we have been to sark twice - most recently a couple of weeks ago and have spoken to a very helpful lady there who has told us a lot about the silver mine that joseph and his family were involved with.
best wishes
pkay :)

hi jennifer
elizabeth holman born on jersey is part of my family tree.  johanna holman - daughter of joseph and johanna holman and sister to elizabeth  - was my great grandmother's mother.  great grandmother johanna marie fourneau - thomas forneau was johanna's husband/partner.  i have done a lot of research on the family and would be happy to contact u again.  i have just come back from a holiday on guernsey and sark and as always have done more family research.  i believe joseph holman was a blacksmith but went to sark from cornwall -
to work on the silver mining project on little sark in 1840s and then when that failed he moved the family to alderney where they lived until emigrating to canada.  not all the family left though as you probably know.
