World War One / Re: Joseph Conn, King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
« on: Thursday 27 August 20 21:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi Rob.
The photo you have above of Joseph Conn has similarities in the face to my grandmother.
It may be a case of me seeing what is not there but I’d rather be wrong than be right and not follow this clue!
Do you have information on the deployments and other places the KOYLI were based or sent or visited?
My suspicion is that This Joseph Conn could have fathered my grandmother while on a brief stay in the area of Bideford in North Devon. Although it is possible my GGM may have been in a different area at that particular time, ie for work or visiting.
Would you be willing to share with me the Conn part of your tree? I can PM you my email address.
Would you have a DNA match to Joseph Conn, close enough to see if we are connected? If so, do you have a DNA profile on Ancestry or the like?
Many thanks
Anna

Hi Rob
Could you tell me anything more about the Joseph Conns you have?
I have a 3rd-4th cousin DNA match to a user whose listed Joseph Conn as their father and Mary McElroy as their mother.
Joseph is listed as being born 20th Jan 1917 (no place listed, but place of death as in Downpatrick, Northern Ireland 4th Apr 2004).
There’s no other family listed and I can’t find anything else to try and build my own tree for the Conn/McElroys to try and find my connection.
Any clues would be appreciated.

Hi.
My reply is aimed at Marymadge.
Would you be willing to tell me more about the Curley family that you are related to?
I’m trying to trace the family of my grandmother’s unknown biological father.
After a load of DNA research, the name Curley comes up a lot. Mostly Irish immaigrants in Australia, but some traced back to Roscommon, Ireland.
I believe a man from the Curley family is the father of my grandmother.
My theory is that this man visited the Bideford, north Devon area, met my grandmother and they had a dalliance (!) around January 1914. He probably didn’t know he left my Ggran pregnant.
Anyway, feel free to message me. I’ll be grateful for any info you can give me.
Thanks

Hi.
I've recently started to research the Curley family.
I am trying to trace a man who may have been my grandmother's father.
DNA results on ancestry, and after eliminating matches that have been confirmed as being from other branches, the remaining larger trees all throw up the name Curley. Mostly from Irish emigrants who moved to Australia. Some trees go back to show Curleys being from Roscommon in Ireland.
I came across this thread today so I thought I'd ask if any of you would be willing to give me any info or point me in the right direction to where i may find answers.
A Willie Curley was mentioned and that he went to US and back. Would he have ever visited Bideford in north Devon around Jan 1914? That's around the time my grandmother was conceived.
Anyway, thanks for reading this far!

Hi all.
I was hoping to get a bit of help.
I’ve got a 3xggm Jane Sanders b.1818 Shebbear, Devon. Married Isaac Ayre.
Her father was John Sanders b.1791 Northam, Devon.
I’m not sure how accurate my findings are, but my mum once mentioned something about the Sanders family being gypsy. Have no idea how to verify either way so any suggestions or info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi
Thanks guys. Very helpful.
Margaret Hutchings was baptised 15 Apr 1792 in Abbotsham, Bideford, Devon.
(My direct ancestor) I have no other info regarding siblings so this is great!

Can I ask where you searched?
Thanks
