I gave up driving 10.years ago because of cost ,& environment mostly .can get where i need to go on busses , trains , 66 was magic ave to gst bus pass

My mother is impressive in many ways
Still gardens & clears publuc footpaths  &  chops wood

She takes a fold up chair in case she tires ,& has an electric chain saw .

People often assume that we arecsisters despite the 30 yesr afe gap

Could anyone find who was living at

 6 montgomery street Dublin

in 1891 and on  electoral rolls around 1897

There must have been a reason for the couple to go to Ireland to have or just to register their baby .

Away from Liverpool where they were known to avoid scandle but why choose that destination unless they had friends or family .

Baby was brought up by Alices mother in

4 montbs before they married

Here is the Barnsley Dynasty of
 Willam. STOTT  b1845

I usually mark direct ancesters by capital surnames and add a star in suffix box after surname for every child thru whom there is a DNA connection

Researching with my cousins paternal side using DNA
Only knew his grandparents names.

Unfortunately there are single mothers on both sides

Trying to go back furthur using DNA

Closest match was anothet person JP whose great grandmother was single
As they.are half 2nd cousins . I had to start  the connection by labelling their respective grandfathers as  first name yorkshire man surmame unknown

There are a group of shared matches whose common ancestor is William STOTT  1842 of Barnsley .

I will set out DNA  workings to how we came to conclusion that "yorkshire man"
Is ;
William.STOTT single b 1870 Barnsley
foundry worker

Question would a foundry worker be likely to travel to Durham & Southsheilds

Most records have him.livimg with his parents in   Barnsley except 1890 ...electoral rolls have him in a dwellimg house

Good morning all from a wet ,& windy leicester UK

Ive not posted on this board for a while .january has been depressing due to weather & 1 personal issue

On the plus side my mother aged 95 has been able to move back into her house after last year s flood & got her exhorbitant car.insurance reduced dramatically by adding my sister to her policy

Insurers dont like people who have had last car written off due to flood water & they dont like elderly drivers .
I thought she might give up driving ,& use taxis & bus but living in a village & highly independant she decided to keep driving in 2025 ,& this year too. Perfect eyesight & heart so no reason not to

Local TV interviewed her a year after the flood . My sister appeared on the clip too looking at photos they.d taken every week of the clear up progress

Shes driving me to leicester museum.tomorrow where there is an exhibition of local peoples art ..including childrens categories .

I agree with Biggles that you arean inspiration
Also you present your case in a clear yet amusing way .

This is a good read . Yesterday i communicated  with a man who found that his birth father was his own uncle
( slept with his  sisters daughter )
Thst is the kind of endogamy that screws up cm amounts .

I have a scottish side where my grandparents met at a wedding .her cousin  married his brother.  So descendants of that couple match my dad on both sides
Also the naming system means 1st grandchildren have same names as their grandparents & 3rd son will be named same as his father 3rd girl same name as mother . So cousins often  have same names & similar birth years

My jewish ancestors at 2xggparents level came from a small latvian community
& plenty of cousin marriages occurred
The advantage being that very small cm amounts still show up as matches & i can confidently go back 6 generations

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Re: 16 children died Barnsley Hall 1908
« on: Monday 26 January 26 22:42 GMT (UK)  »
Have just worked out how my cousin relates to the STOTT children who died

His great grandfather William STOTT  1870 was the brother of Hearty STOTT 1875 father of 2 children who died
The great grand daughter of the surviving brother told  me that the family did carry the grief for generations .
The new match is a granddaughter descended from.a younger child.

So my cousins grandfather was their cousin .

Have had another DNA match & with protools & the  scenario is wrong

The dna connections were thru lavinia STOTT s brother

So it was more probably  william STOTT 1870 who had secret childen .

Back to the drawing board

The Common Room / Re: Help in finding my paternal grandmother
« on: Monday 26 January 26 14:46 GMT (UK)  »
He wasnt.completely  estranged if he was on the census with the family when Edith was 4 months old
But they might have decided to separate by then and he was staying there for convenience and  to be with his other children . As a sailor he probably had long periods away so would know if Edith was Not his

I think youre right to assume Jethro wasnt the father ..

DNA could resolve if it was actually a Charles Cocks ...are there any cousins by that name ?

* or did jethro marry a relation elizabeth coomber who was adopted by cocks family

FORMERLY  is what my grandmothers marriage certificate says with surname of her adoptive family ( she may not have known she was adopted til she married )

I had a quick look at trees on ancestry

None of them have included any of Ediths children ..and several have her born in Davenport Australia . !

So no leads there about what became of john .edith or Thomas
