Hello Lyndon.

The Sarah Sessions born 10 January 1781 married William Clifford of Buckland in East Hendred in 1802. Their children were Charles (ch. 27 July 1803), William (b. 19 April 1804, christened 13 May), Stephen (chr. 29 June 1806), and Ann (b. and chr. 24 March, 1808), Marian (chr. 22 April 1810) and Eliza (chr. 19 April 1812). Ann Clifford (who married John Wiltshire in 1828) is my g g g g grandmother; her daughter Emma married John Francis Butler of Upton and they emigrated to Australia in 1858. The Sessions family was Catholic, and some family members are buried in the churchyard of St Mary's, East Hendred.

I can give you more information on our family if you like.
Geoffrey

Thanks for this, Sarah.

I believe Charles Clifford was the brother of Rachel and Ann Clifford, also of East Hendred, Berkshire. Ann was born in 1808 and married John Wiltshire in about 1829. The family was Catholic, like many people in East Hendred protected by the recusant Eyston family. Charles may have become Anglican in Australia, but we would like to know if there is any Catholicism in your family. The Australian descendants of Ann Clifford are both Catholic and Anglican. Ann Clifford Wiltshire's daughter Emma married John Butler of Upton and they emigrated to Queensland in 1858. The descendants of this family had the surnames Butler, Archer, Farnie, Gapps, Gibb, Dean by 1910, and live mainly in NSW and Queensland. Geoff
