Fabulous - I will do a bit more digging and see what I come up with.  I actually now live in SW France, but I am going back to Scotland to see family this Saturday, and if I can, I will take a trip down to Dalserf and see for myself.  Thank you so much for all your help and info.....

Hi again,
My family of Weirs lived in Rosebank, Dalserf - and the few death certificates that I have say that they died there too.  Do you know if Rosebank was a farm???  Their occupations were blacksmiths and gardners.  Janet Currie's parents were William Currie and Janet paterson.   
Can you tell me some of the details of the Weirs that you know of in Dalserf, as surely they must be relatives???

Hi again,
The key people I am looking for info on are as follows:
Alexander Weir, born about 1787, died before 1850 (this is as far back as I have got, so any info on Alexander's parents and/ or siblings would be extremely useful!)
His Wife Janet Weir (nee Currie), born about 1787, died 1860
Their child, Alexander Weir, Born 1812, died before 1855
Alexander's wife Marion Weir (nee Eglinton), born 1811, died before 1855.
Their other Children, William born 1808, Janet born 1810 and James born 1814, died 1882

Thanks for all your help in this - it is very much appreciated.
