The man I was speaking about has been in contact. He said there was children by the name of Scott at the Elms. He does not any more than that but said his sister might. I shall email her soon

Old post or not....the family I mentioned had the surname Searle. Parents were involved with the Elms. I do not know for how long they were involved. The person I know..have not seen them for a while and does not live in Arbroath. If/when I see him again I will ask.

It would be worthwhile asking on this site, if you have not done so already. You will have to register...free.

Hello Alison,
I have a Memorial Inscription book for Arbirlot Church cemetery but found a Lesly who was a bit later than the one you are looking at.

Have a look here, when it comes back, ...it may be of help.

You could try looking on here. If you find who you are looking for you will have to pay for precise information. Initially it gives general details re name and cemetery.

I stand corrected ! We are suffering the tail end of Hurricane Bertha here, in Arbroath. I am not going to venture out so I had another look through my MI book for your request. In the Abbey there is a stone erected by a James Steven, however, that is all there is on the stone. There is no date mentioned or any other data. I will go down to have a look this week. If I can find it I will take a photo. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee it will still be there as our Council remove all fallen or broken stones AND have "tidied up" the graveyard i.e. moved the stones into neat rows. This means the grave marker does not necessarily indicate where the deceased are buried. Crazy or what. I was told by the Abbey custodian that bodies were buried from wall to wall within the Abbey boundaries. The Abbey has been around for quite a few centuries.
