Could be right robbie we will keep at it and hopefully get a breakthrough. I have thought that, Paterson,  came from
a gran or grandfather on the mccartney side.

      On  the 1788 O.P.R for Muirkirk is certainly not MAXEHEAD as the writer has written numerous capital M`s . Was George a tenant farmer?The ministers of the day kept a record for the parish, as the birth and
christening of william highlights that he was born on the 6th and baptised 10 miles away in Douglas, there must be a connection,you need a good reason to travel 10miles with a newborn to be baptised. Thats if
they travelled or were they there in the first place?

the mckartneys were from Haxelhead near Douglas Lanarkshire where John and Margarets first born William
was christened. there is a farmstead in that area called Hazelside which i have visited.I do not know if she was born out of wedlock as i have not researched it. John was born in Sanquhar as Census records declare but
I do not have proof as yet.

yes your right although william was babt. in douglas lanarkshire as the mccartneys were from that
area. thomas was born 27th june 1795. john was born 2nd dec. 1803.
are you researching james and george mcmurdo who married christian and margaret muncie the daughters of james and agnes craig

Can anyone help in my search for info on James Boyd born 1860 of irish descent. He lived in the Leswalt/ Kirkcolm area.I know that he was married 3 times and have census and marriage certs.
The story in the family is that he was a ploughman and won numerous competitions for his craft
I have tried looking on line for newspaper reports in the hope that I might find, even a photo.Can
anyone in the wigtownshire area help?

I would propose that the commonloch was Darnconner a mining village between Lugar and Auchinleck.
