Very frustrating :-(

Thanks Thudders,
I've spent days looking for it too!
I've posted it on the Axis history forum. 50 odd looks but no replies  :(
It certainly does look German but I wouldn't have thought dad was the type to collect a souvenir like that. More likely to be his or a close friend's.
I will find out one day.

Thanks both for your replies.

I had thought it looked German but have had no success finding it on any German sites either.

My dad served in North Africa and Italy with the GHQ Liaison regiment. Phantom Signals. I had untill recently assumed this was the Phantom 'P'. Having seen one I now know it isn't.

Hi All,
Can anyone identify this patch?
It belongd to my late father who served in WW2 and I assume it was part of his inignia.
Have searched the net to find it with no luck.
Thanks, Heather

Cavan / Re: John Thomas Downey, Cavan
« on: Friday 04 August 06 23:26 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Anthony I'll keep it in mind as there may be a connection.
John Thomas Downey married Emily Ferguson in London City in 1875 he gave his father as Robert a carpenter. JTD was an upholsterer. On the 1881 &1901 censuses he was born in Cavan County. On the 1891 it says Dublin!  ???
I get the feeling that this is as far back as I'll get with this line. But I live in hope. :-\

Kent Lookup Requests / Re: Gordon House Deal, Street Directory

Hi Bill,
All I know about Lily Edith Banks is the name and that she gave her address as Gordon Hse in 1922 and her occupation as "mental nurse".
Rumour has it she went to Australia shortly after this date .Until recently I hadn't even found a birth for her. I'd been looking for a younger person. Again rumour led me to believe she was a "young girl" in 1922. The only Lily Edith I've found was Maidstone 1884 and that was spelt LILLY.
There is a Lily with that birth date on the 1891 census living in Dartford. But I have no idea if I'm on the right track!
If you do find anything I'd be most gratefull as this looks like a looming brickwall!!
Cheers ,Heather

Thanks Bill,
At least I now know that it must have been a private house but Smith was not the name I'd Hoped to find. Perhaps the person I'm looking for ( Lily Edith Banks) was a lodger or a relative.
Have just notice that you are looking for Banks too. Is that name familiar?
The only one I found with that name was born in Maidstone 1884.
I would be more than interested if you have any info.
Thanks again,

Heather :)
