London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Re: James Grace - Blacksmith - Westminster
« on: Wednesday 01 April 09 22:14 BST (UK)  »
Hi there
have a look at www.workhouses.org.uk

I can find two records for James Grace at the moment, a workhouse death record at Stepney:
James Grace, Age 70, death date 28th March 1879

Also on the 1891 Census there is this person:

Camberwell Workhouse
James Grace,  Pauper, Widow, 77, Ret(ired) Coachsmith, born Westminster

Mega Buckets of Good luck Ruskie!!!

Sabrina, have looked at the link you sent me, that's the link where I found his army details but couldn't see a digital copy on line.  I don't think the 38 year old is mine, George Edward was born in 1884 so he would have only been 29 in 1913, but many thanks for taking the time to look for me!

One thing I have managed to find out is that there is a birth of a Richard G Self in June-September 1913, mother's maiden name was Sims, odds are that it is related to my George and Lucy, which means they were still in England in late 1913!

Cheers!

Oh Ruskie thanks so much, that would be absolutely brilliant!  I have the emigration records for my Great Great Uncle and Aunt who emigrated in 1926 -  Lucy E Self is noted as being First Cousin to my Great Great Aunt who's maiden name was Sims.  George Edward apparently worked for the Water and Sewage Board in 1926.
Cheers!

Australia / Emigrated 1911-1926 to Brisbane - Any Help Appreciated

Hi, am wondering if anyone can help.
George Edward Self (born England 03/03/1884) and his wife Lucy emigrated to Brisbane sometime between the end of 1911 and 1926.  They got married in Islington, London in September 1911 (Lucy's maiden name was Sims).  I know they were in Brisbane in 1926 as they were sponsors for another member of the family who emigrated at the end of 1926.  That's the only trace I have of them until George Edward joined the Australian Army for WWII.
Any help/advice would be appreciated!
Many thanks

Hi am wondering if anyone can help.  Am totally lost and confused!

My GGGrandad Joseph Button was born in 1828 in Leeds. Yorkshire, he was a Journeyman Carpenter.

He married in 1850 in London, I have his marriage certificate and it tells me his father was John Button, Carpenter.

I have found Joseph in London on 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1901 Census, cannot see him on 1841 Census.

Cannot see his father on any census at all - On the IGI there IS a Joseph Button baptised at St Peters, Leeds in 1828 - someone kindly checked the parish records for me at St Peters and found some other children, one of them being called Jane, BUT, the only John Button that links to Jane or can be found on the Census 1841, 1851 etc is a 'John Button' Cloth Dresser, there is no John Button, Carpenter!

I know people changed occupations but cloth-dresser to Carpenter???!!  Have been told that the Joseph on the IGI is more than likely not my Joseph.  I know 'my' Joseph is the right one as I have traced the line right down and am 100% certain he is the correct one in my family line.

If anyone has access to Leeds Parish Records for 1828 and can find a Joseph Button on there I would be extremely grateful, without knowing his siblings am totally stuck!  If someone can check the parish records for me I would be willing to pay any out of pocket expenses - am sooooo desperate!

Many thanks!

Linda

Europe / POLAND: Antoszewski - Searching for living relatives
« on: Saturday 25 February 06 12:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

Am wondering if anyone can help - am actually trying to help a friend to find living relatives in Poland.

Janeck Antoszewski was born 1920 in Pomorze, he served on Orp Slazak during WW2 then stayed in England.  The family owned a farm nearl the Polish corridor before WW2, he had two brothers Tadeusz and Hubert - she knows that one brother died but is not sure about the other.  They are trying to trace any relatives.  Any information gratefully received.
Many thanks for any help/ideas!
