Hi Ross

Many many thanks for your suggestion to contact the .Gov for Service Record of a Deceased Service Person

I applied on Thursday afternoon [14th] and received my copy late last night [18th].  The copy isn't very clear but they have acknowledged this and have asked me to re-apply after the 1st of April when it will be digitised.

There isn't a lot of information on it but what there is, is about my dad which to me is absolutely priceless.

Again, thank you.

Hi

Sadly my dad is no longer with us to ask him questions so I am hoping someone can help me with my queries.

Dad was born in 1933 and was "called up" in 1951, initially being sent to RAF Hednesford in Staffordshire, before going on to RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire.  He was offered and did a mechanical apprenticeship so served for four years.

My queries are, what rank would he have gone in at?

I do know that he was on standby for the Suez crisis but didn't get called up, does anyone know when he would have been "stood down"?

He met my mum on a demob week in Scarborough in July 1955 and a couple of years later was asked by the New Zealand RAF if he would consider emigrating and joining up, but my mum said no, she couldn't go, so it never happened.  I'm presuming that this would have come via the MOD, if so was it widespread?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hi

Can sks please help, if possible and do a look up for the children born to John 1763-1851 and Susan 1769-1847 Harrington nee Stable at Bootle.  John is my 5x gr uncle through his parents William 1738-1823 and Betty 1745-1821 nee Smith

John and Susan married on 4 Dec 1791 at Bootle and made their home at Fell Green.

I have followed their line through their daughters Betty 1797-1871 and Hannah 1802-1849 but I have been told that there were other children ie Nancy but no other information

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Wow,  I knew these lists were good but am still totally stunned by the help you've given me.  I do appreciate it.  I will need a couple of days to digest and investigate all the info and will come back to you all

Down / McAvoy / Macken Kilkeel
« on: Sunday 08 July 18 14:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Nicholas McAvoy and Ann Macken, my 3x gr grandparents were married on 24 Nov 1845 at Kilkeel before travelling to Egremont, Cumberland a few years later.  Sadly Nicholas died in a mining accident there in 1870 shortly before their 9th child was born.

Can anyone please help me take my research further back or suggest links that could help me in this endeavour.

Thank you
