Bobbag, Thank you for your reply to my post. On your tree do you have Bagshaws living in Kniveton?
Thanks.

I am researching the Bagshaw family of Hognaston. I am trying to find information on Nicholas Bagshaw who married Jane Frost 1750 and Emmatt Dean in 1764. Where did he come from? who were his parents? Also Matthew Bagshaw who died Hognaston 1798 following an accident with his bull.
Again who were his parents? I would be grateful for any help. Thank you.

Ellen Welsh/McCarthy. When Robert registered Ellen at two schools in 1889 he gave her previous school as St. Francis of Assisi RC, Notting Hill. September 1889 he gives his address as 23, Griffin Street, Lewisham. This information could be a lead to Obinia as she gives her place of birth (approx. 1888) as Notting Hill, London on the 1911 census.

James Saunders first husband of Ellen was born approx. 1877 Chatham. 1901 census living at 23,King Street, Rochester. St. Margaret's.  Occupation - hawker of flowers. Aunt Nell was a florist/hawker of flowers when I was a little girl. She used to get up very early, go and buy her flowers, come home and make them up into posies and button holes and take them round the pubs in Portsmouth selling them from a big wicker basket. Happy memories.

I have seen the original marriage register and none of the entries of that time have witnesses, it is a one line entry giving their names, residence, status and occupation. With regards to his will, he was in his 60's when he died and left everything to his wife and children.
I appreciate how difficult this research is, I have been banging my head at a brick wall for years. Just thought it might be worth asking on Rootschat. I purchased the disk for all bmd's at Kniveton but it did not help me make the link.
Thanks for replying to me.

I have looked at this one before but was not able to follow it up. Working on the basis that most families at the time named their children after their fathers/grandfathers, William named his first two children John and William.

Thank you for replying. No witnesses given in the register at that time. Yes, there is a will and I have a copy.

I would be grateful if anyone could help me trace the parents of my 4 time great grandfather William Bagshaw born approx. 1742. William was a farmer and corn merchant at Kniveton, Nr. Ashbourne, Derbyshire. He was the Parish Clerk for over 30 years. He died 6th March 1805 aged 63 yrs. I have other Bagshaw families in Kniveton who predate William but cannot find the link to them.
William was married twice, his first wife Sarah Hague died May 1790, he married his second wife Sarah Tomlinson July 1794. I have been researching this line of my family for over 35 years but still cannot find the missing piece to the jigsaw.
Thank you.
