Neil McLean died in Fernie. That's where Jennie dumped him and then she continued on to Rossland with her daughter Effie and grandson Gordon. Effie married Joseph Crowe in 1911. He was in his 50's at the time! That's as much as I know about Neil.  I will keep searching and will let you know if I find out more.

I am looking at  a photo of Effie Jean being held by her grandmother, Jennyie Thompson McLean! lol
This is pretty incredible! Please tell me more about your family. My dad, Louis Crowe, was born in 1913. He died in 1998. I know that Gordon was about 10 years older? I don't know much more. Gordon moved where? I was born in Trail BC in 1950....my dad never left the area. I did, though, moving to northern Vancouver Island in 1973 as a high school teacher. I met all of my four husbands up here! lol   I have two daughters and two granddaughters. I retired 5 years ago, but went back to work this fall...crazy, eh?  Let me know about you and yours!

Hi! I'm the great granddaughter of Neil McLean. His wife was Jennie Thompson from Portage du Fort P.Q. She was born in 1854. Neil and Jennie and their two daughters, Effie Pearl and Zillah (in the transcribed census, it is Sillah) Would love to find out more information! ;)

Do you know what religion they were?

I found a possible for George in 1901, and he is methodist.
Effie Pearl McLean was organist for United Church in Rossland BC and gave piano lesson to help support her family, as her second husband had passed away in 1924.

I entered my introductory topic on this line of McLeans....just figured out how to reply. I am Effie Pearl McLean's granddaughter. I titled my entry like this one....Effie married Joseph Crowe in 1911 and had 3 children: my dad, Louis Archibald; my aunt, Vivien Patricia; and my uncle Lloyd Ivan. My dad married in 1949; I (Bernice May) was born in 1950 and my brother (Donald Brent) in 1953. I have two daughters and two granddaughters. Most interested in finding out more! ;D

I happened to come across a listing for my grandmother, Effie Pearl McLean, who married James Harper in 1904. I am her granddaughter through her second marriage to Joseph Crowe. (1911) Her eldest son from that marriage was my father, Louis Archibald Crowe. Her mother was Jenny Thompson (I traced this through the Thompson family) who was born in Quebec in 1854. I was most interested in finding more about my great grandfather, Neil McLean. Jennie and Effie headed west and Jennie left her husband in Fernie, BC. The family, including Effie's son, Gordon Harper, lived in Rossland, BC.   :D Hoping to find about more about this line! :)
