Thank you for that advice.

It certainly gives me a lead which I can try to find out.  Hopefully Frank and Minnie were born in the same place and hopefully Alrewas is in Canada.

Unfortunately the only information on the marriage certificate in regards to her address is : "Canada".  Not even a province.  Nevermind.

Kind regards
Heidi

John Fox was deceased at the time of Minnie and George's marriage in 1877 and I cannot find Minnie on the 1871 census which leads me to believe they came to England during this period.  John Fox's occupation was a stonemason.

The witnesses were Frank Fox and Hannah Garbett (spelling of this last name may be slightly out due to poor handwriting).

Could this information help in tracking her arrival and departure information?

Kind regards
Heidi

Europe / from Canada to the UK pre 1877

I desperately need some advice on where to go to next.

My great great grandmother, Minnie Mary J Fox, according to census records, was born in Canada.  Her marriage certificate to George Gallear in 1877 states her father as John Fox.

Is there anyway of tracking her down preferably on line since I live in Aust.  I saw in a previous posting that records were kept at Kew but for later years for outgoing passengers from Canada to Britain.

Does anyone have any advice or have I hit one of those brick walls and can go no further?

Kind regards
Heidi

WOW!!

Thank you so much Claire and Rambler.  No wonder I couldn't find them in the 1891 census if their name has been transcribed incorrectly.

I really appreciate you both looking that up for me.  It has given me some extra names that could help me apply for birth certificates to find out the mother's maiden name.

Kind regards

Dear Rambler

I'm looking for my great great grandfather's father.  My Great great grandfather was John Gallear.  According to his marriage records, his father's name was George Gallear and there were two witnesses - Alice Gallear and Henry Gallear.

Unfortunately I have applied for two birth certificates, one came back with a father's name of Enoch and the other was partially refunded since the father's name was different.  I can find no other trace of a John Gallear b 1877.

I am now grasping at anything to help me out including spelling errors or perhaps he was adopted, etc.  Therefore my thoughts were, that perhaps, his witnesses for hsi marriage were his siblings and it might be easier to apply for their birth certificate.

If you have any thoughts on my dilemma, I would be really grateful.

Heidi

I would appreciate if someone could check these people out for me in the 1891 census:-

George Gallear - head

Alice Gallear - daughter

Henry Gallear - son

I am hoping that they lived in the same house.

Unfortunately I am unsure at this stage when George was born.

Thank you kindly

I would be grateful if someone could please look up on the 1871 census for a Charles Waltho (head) b1843 Armitage.  His wife, Elizabeth, was born 1842 in Armitage also.
