The Common Room / Re: "Access the Birth, Marriage and Death Index for nothing"
« on: Saturday 21 January 06 09:37 GMT (UK)  »
I've only just found this thread ( late as always ) and must admit I hadn't even realised that the original images were available through ancestry.

Typically, I'm one of those who paid a one-off fee to 1837online just before Christmas for 3 years unlimited access to BMD records.

But given that, I still think I'm ahead.  Many a time, I've found entries on 1837online that Ancestry seems to have cleverly hidden and from posts on here it seems that it's far from being as complete as 1837online even with it's occasional indexing problem.  Searching is definitely quicker.

So, no complaint from me.  Yet.

( Or maybe I'm just trying to justify the money spent   ::) )

Keith,

Don't like to make it easy for us do they?   ::)

I wondered whether giving Joseph a new schedule number, indicates a new household if not house.

He could only be son to Sarah (I'd venture) since no one else seems old enough but earlier censuses ( ??? ) show his mother as Mary.

I'm not helping, am I?  :-[

The Common Room / Re: Legal notice from Ancestry.com
« on: Friday 18 November 05 15:42 GMT (UK)  »
As I understand it ........

A group of people are suing Ancestry under US law because they claim that Ancestry failed to tell them about the additional costs of paying their subscription monthly instead of as a one off annual payment.

The people doing the suing ( plaintiffs ) are seeking compensation.Ancestry.com ( defendants ) deny the allegation.

Ancestry.com are required under US law to put a notice up which gives other monthly subscribers the opportunity to add their details to the list for a chance in a share of the "winnings" if the action is successful.

Disclaimer :   At least I think that's what it boils down to.     ???

There's a Family of Linberry's living in West Tarring, headed by George ( b.1832 ) all of whom were born in Salvington.

OR

Hetty (b. Lancing, 1801) and daughter Emma (b. Bramber 1831) living in Brighton

Is that of any use to you?

If so I'll type it out in full.

Northamptonshire / Re: Parker family help
« on: Monday 17 October 05 21:59 BST (UK)  »
peteu4 ,

I thought the only likely location was Gayton, from looking at the map, but it's a strange 'G'.

Looking at the occupation - which I read as Landsman - the 'L' seems the same, which is what was throwing me.

Certainly, I can't find the family in Gayton in 1901.

Not knowing any other details than those I've given, I still don't know how I'm going to prove any link ( such as the census info given by Calver above ) until my father appears in the 1931 census !!  ( Typical he should be born just AFTER the 1921 census  ::) )

John,

Thanks for that.  I don't know why I hadn't found that one. It certainly looks promising.  Unfortunately, both witnesses were Theobald's from his wife's family.

I knew my grandfather was a gardener as family anecdotal history claims he was one of the original landscapers of the Model Village at Beckenscot ( Beaconsfield, Bucks ).

It might also explain one of my father's middle names of Francis.  Certainly bears further investigation.

I am obliged to you Sir !
