Why do you need a modern counterpart to an old saying, Do they not basically mean the same, or is it just a play on words.
Look before you leap= Keep your mouth shut unless you know the facts.
Dont count your chickens= Anything can change.
pot kettle black= No one is perfect
If you pay peanuts= Not everyone is an Allan Sugar.
Plus I only found out recently that LOL does not mean Lots of Love. Did on all letters I wrote.

the one expression I can remember my mother saying with a broad Irish Accent was a scottish expression about a crying child. " She is like a Christmas Card, She is always greeting"

Hi Tommac,
My name is Catherine Mc Henry from Airdrie. My father was Sonny take it he was a first cousin of yours. I have a copy of John & Selinas marriage cert and also a photograph of John.
Managed to get a few reports on the death of John Mc Henry if you are interested.

My greatgrandfather was Patrick Tuite Royal Dublin Fusiliers 19747.He enlisted in 27/5/1915 and died 15/7/17.I know his is buried at Bard Cottage cemetry in Belgium but often wondered why he enlisted an left a wife and 5 young children at home.

Hate to imposse but u obviosly enjoy searching .From the other side of my family my great grandfather Patrick Tuite  was born in Rathellen Bagenalstown 31 jan  1881 and died in Flanderrs 1917 . I have his birth cert but he did not have a christian name on it .Also they spelt his surname wrong Chute

Thank you for the info on John Mc Henry since youre post I found a photo of my great great grandfather plus a post from the Ashburton Times in New Zealand but as yet nothing on Selina Totten.As you said reports on his death differ

New to roots chat and looking for info on Selina Mc Henry nee Totten. She married John Mc Henry in Magheralin County in 1880.Believe said John Mc Henry is buried in Milltown Cemetry.
