Perthshire / Re: DRUMMOND Research

Jim-- Any chance that your John Drummond who returned to Scotland from America in 1791 is the Royal Navy lieutenant of that name who married Catherine Engs in Rhode Island, U.S.A., in 1778 and had three children: William, Janet, and Rebecca? John left his family in Rhode Island when he was called to return to the Royal Navy in 1790 as captain of a troop transport, HMS Dover. He died in 1793 at sea or abroad. Never made it back to his family.

Looking for John Drummond, born 1746-1747, place unknown but probably Scotland, parents and siblings unknown; took part in the American Revolution on various ships, then was captain of the Royal Bounty, ordnance transport, 1779-1780. After the war he was a merchant captain until called back into service in 1790 as captain of HMS Dover. He married Catherine Engs of Newport, Rhode Island, U.S.A., 1778. He died between 27 July 1793 and the end of that year, possibly at sea or in the British Isles or the West Indies.
