Interested to read about the Whysalls and Cresswells.

Sarah Ann Hall Brown was the result of an affair between 2 neighbouring families. She was born on Jan 31st 1835 Weston Spot, Ripley. She married Joseph Cresswell B 1848 Ripley.
Joseph was the son of Joseph Cresswell B 1820 Denby and his first wife Eleanor or Ellen Hunt B 1826 Kilburn. Ellen died in 1849 so baby Joseph was living with the Hunt parents on Street Lane, Denby in the 1851C. By the 1861C he had rejoined his father and new wife Mary in Kilburn.
Joseph Cresswell and Sarah Ann had 2 sons - Joseph Hall Cresswell B Feb 14th 1874 Ripley and James Alfred Cresswell B Feb 20th 1876 Ripley. When Sarah died in 1879 the boys were split up - James staying with his father and Joseph going to his grandparents who kept a pub.
James youngest daughter Jessie went on to marry Cyril Whysall, hence the connection.

My great grandad's younger sister was Fanny Gill Hardstaff. She married John James Moore, a miner and lived at 25 Victoria St., Selston, a short distance from Portland Row, Kirkby. When I researched the Moore family, like you, I discovered that John James had 3 sisters and 5 brothers, the youngest being Thomas Saville Foljambe Moore B 1880. As all the other siblings have family/ordinary names, it does make you wonder how he came to be so called. Also, his mother was the middle child of 5, again with a fancy name i.e. Celestina Anne Pamelina Lavinia Spencer B 1841 Blackwell, Derbyshire. Her family were framework knitters and there is nothing to suggest that wealth played any part in their lives.
Could it be delusions of grandeur? It's a real mystery!

Hi
researching Moore family as Fanny Gill Hardstaff married John James Moore and lived on Victoria Road, Selston near my mother, her niece. John J Moore's parents were William B 1840 and Celestina B 1842 Blackwell. They lived on Portland Row, Kirkby which was a row of 45 houses built by Butterley Company for miners in 1823. They had 8 children, the youngest being Thomas Savile Foljambe Moore B 1880 Kirkby. Thomas, like father and brothers went on to be a miner. He married Martha and in the 1911 Census had 3 children, Fanny 6, Phoebe 3 and Joseph 10 mths. They were living in Bleak Hall, Kirkby.
Like you, my interest arose because of the names given. There has to be some significance.
Let me know if you find out any more.

Hi

I am hoping that Carol who has records for this area might read my message and be able to help.
John Fisher born 1830 Rowthorne married Emma Forman Wall born 1831 Etwall in 1884.
They had a farm on Sutton Lane, Sutton cum Duckmanton. she died first in 1893. John then went back to live at Rowthorne farm with siblings and is buried with them in Ault Hucknall Church (1901)
Where is Emma buried? Could it be St Mary's at Sutton Scarsdale?

Would appreciate any help on this.
