The old cathedral was in Sussex Street Middlesbrough when that closed ( not sure of the date) a new cathedral was built in Coulby Newham on the outskirts of the town. My ancestors were definatley baptised in the old cathedral.
The old cathedral ceased being used in the late 1970's and burnt down May 2000. The new cathedral opened in the 1980's.

Thank you for your interest

it's so confusing isn't it, it's Jeremiah & Ellen's son John whose baptism I'm looking for. The family were Roman Catholic, I have found John's brother Jeremiah baptism at the old roman catholic cathedral in middlesbrough but can't find John's. I found John's marriage to Mary Hagan in 1896 at the old cathedral which confirmed his father was Jeremiah, I just can't find his baptism. Thank you for your time

yes, 1871 census shows Jeremiah and Ellen living with John and Catherine Leahey, what's confusing is that they both had sons named John born within a year of each other. thank you for your reply

Hi Rosie, Ellen's maiden name was Gurran but it could have been misspelt, I will certainly look into it .
Leahy is spelt so many different ways it's difficult to trace through that way. Thank You for your prompt reply

I am having difficulty finding baptism of John Lahey/Lahay/Leahy born in Middlesbrough between 1867-1869 son of Jeremiah and Ellen.
Some of his siblings were baptised at the Old Roman Catholic Cathedral in Middlesbrough but I can't find his baptism. Any help would be appreciated. thank you

Hi, I think this John is mine as my 4 times great grandfather Thomas son of John and Mary was baptised in the parish of Grindonin 1788, his brothers William and Ralph were also baptised there. I can't find John's marriage to Mary or her surname. Any help will be appreciated.
