thankyou for your reply...:) yes i do know why he was called dogger...fishing floats where originally made from stray dogs (before glass became readily available) i still have the mental image of the poor dog with corks in its legs in lossie museum :/ but i guess it was necessary :)
 wow...i had no idea how far flung my great grandmothers family where...Ive always had a bit of wonderlust for the world - as did my grandad...now i know where it comes from :D
I have vague memories of the house, the last time i visited was when i was about 6ish so i wouldn't have known  about shamrock(the plant) then, but I'll ask my mum .
i was however told alot about the boat, also called the shamrock ,my grandad used to work as a fisherman until he moved south (my dad has an excellent photo of it ),he spent quite a few summer holidays up in lossie with William (his dad )maybe you met him at some point ?
 my grandad used to tell me tales about being related to Davey Crockett, have you found any evidence to suggest that? and i was also told that the Crockett name was originally french..sorry for all the questions , its just really nice to meet you :)

I'm a descendant of George dogger stewart and Jane :) grandaughter of one of their sons William... if any of you would like to talk with me I'd be honoured , I'm a new member and new to genealogy but have found your link extremely interesting as alot of what i know about the family tree is on here - and alot of what i i didn't know too ! :) (my main goal was to find out about the Crockett side of the family ) anyway thankyou and hope to speak to one of you soon :)
