Ken:
Just re read my reply to you .
On reflection now , It sounds a bit “sharp “.
Was not meant to be so .
If I can help further with the Bastardy records or the Dinsdale family’s then I will be happy to do so.

Ken:

My original answer to the posting was just about Bastardy Bonds but I am , like most people with Dales links, remotely related to some of those mentioned but a long, long way out:
Chaprman Dinsdale is 2nd cousin 3 times removed.
John Raine is 1st cousin 3 times removed.
So not what you could call close relatives !!

I have a copy of the Bastardy Bonds but they only start at 1852.

However, there is mention of Eleanor Croft and John Raine of Carperby miner:

Feb 1857 Eleanor Croft of Carpbery John Raine of Carperby miner.

March 1857 Eleanor Croft of Carperby John Raine of Carperby no appearance.

Eleanor Croft had 3 children before she married Chapman Dinsdale June 6th 1859 at Aysgarth:

Chapman Dinsdale 39 b Carperby lead miner son of Alexander married Ellen Croft 30 s Carlerby dau of Michael stonemason.

Henry Croft bap May 29th 1851 at Carperby buried Sept 4th 1851 at Aysgarth

John Henry Croft bap Sept 16th 1855 at Carperby

Margaret Croft born c 1857 at Carperby.

There is a John Raine born at Castle Bolton June 26th 1831 son of Joseph Raine and Edith (Horn) who married Nov 29th 1819 at Aysgarth

John Raine died Dec 9th 1900 at Mifflins Wisconsin USA
He married Susanna Anderson.

I think that I can help a little with this.

The last William Bryan Metcalfe you quote is shown on my copy of the Aysgarth PR just as Bryan Metcalfe of Carperby, bap Aug 21wst 1698 at Aysgarth son of John Metcalfe of Carperby

He did marry Grace Lupton at Aysgarth Oct 30th 1725 and have 7 children.

Non of them was bap Jane

What you say about Metcalfe/Metcalf in this area is  correct.
There are over 2600 Metcalfe baptisms shown in the local Wensleydale/ Swaledale Parish Registers.
And 282 of those are John Metcalfe.

Trying to unravel them is a job which I gave up on some years ago.

I do not have copies of Parish Records for Thornton Steward so can not help with your other Metcalfe problems.

« on: Tuesday 09 April 19 09:31 BST (UK)  »
The William Webster bap April 19th 1779 was buried April 21st 1779 son of Matthew and Elizabeth of Carperby.
I have then a second William born c 1782 at Malham.
But I do not have a bap for him and it is quite some time since I recorded this information.
I will dig out my files and see if anything else comes up and I will also ask my fellow Heseltine researchers if they can help.
