US Lookup Requests / Re: Myer Gladstone
« on: Saturday 31 May 14 18:12 BST (UK)  »

His wife Emma was a Native American Indian and had 7 brothers.

Emma Cohen, had 7 brothers and also 2 sisters

Isaac (born 1872 in America)
Emily/Emma/Emmie (born 1874 in America)
Abraham (born 1875 in Birmingham, Warwickshire)
Lewis (born 1876 in Birmingham, Warwickshire)
Solomon (born 1877 in Birmingham, Warwickshire)
Esther (born 1879 in Birmingham, Warwickshire)
Annie (Also known as Hannah) (born 1880 in Birmingham, Warwickshire)
Wolfe or Wolf (born 1881)
Isaiah (born 1883)
And Phineas (born 1885)

Hope this helps. With her being Native American my family have never mentioned this, We also think her parents are Amelia and Harris Cohen, who were said to own a delicatessen at Florence St, Birmingham, the 1891 census apparently shows this, but my nan has done this research based on information from my great aunt Doreen.

I too am doing research for a friend, and am very interested in the "Gladstone" side of this exact family.  I may have identified up to six siblings (and possibly the parents) of Myer Gladstone.  The six emigrated to the U.S. from England, between the years of about 1890 through about 1909; before England, they were from Kalisz, now Poland, but at times it was under Russian control.  (German spelling is Kalisch)  They were all occupied in the tailoring, coat making, embroidery, or other textile trades.  "Gladstone" seems to be a translation of "Gluckstein" which was spelled with two dots over the U and has sometimes devolved into "Glickstein" in the U.S.

I'd like to compare notes on this interesting extended family.  How can I be contacted directly?
Hi, I have just read this subpost, I would like to get in contact with you if that is okay?

Hi, I don't know if anyone is still reading this, but I am tracing my family history, Myer Gladstone was my great great grandfather, and they did live at that address in New York. I am the great granddaughter of Benjamin, who was born in 1904 after the census you have seen (But he is shown in the 1911 census), and the granddaughter of his son John. I'm really trying to trace my family history, We thought Emma's name was Naomi Cohen, but its down either as Emily, Emma or Amy. It is also thought our previous family name was along the lines of Glichenstein.
