Armed Forces / Re: Regiment on death cert 1856 Scotland
« on: Sunday 19 May 19 04:46 BST (UK)  »
A latecomer to your thread sorry but just a thought. My first take on the regiment, looking at the weight of the strokes was the 24th  but when I enlarge the image it does look more like a 3....but I prefer 24th i think. :)

If the surname you're researching is Flem(m)ing you should be able to narrow your SP search with one of my indexes here
https://one-name.org/cgi-bin/archive/scottish-birthfrontpage.cgi?study=Fleming&ref=2406
If it's not Fleming, most SP Fleming births to 1869 can be found as baptisms in FamilySearch so same probably applies for other surnames.

PM me you you think I could help further

Thes two PCC Wills may help. These were the names as I scanned through.

7 pages - Robert Dryden, probated 31 Mar 1828
Robert Dryden of the New Road, Whitechapel Road, Mdx, gentleman
---my uncle Thomas Dryden
---to my brother George Dryden
---to Sarah Caney and Ann Caney both of New Road, St George's in the East, Mdx
---to Richard Brown of the Coal Exchange, London
---to Stephen Stanton of Ratcliffe Street, Ratcliffe Highway, Mdx, gentleman
---to Robert Clark of Tooting, Surrey, coal factor
---my wife Mary Dryden
---my daughters Mary Ann Dryden & Sarah Caney Dryden

Four and a half page PCC Will of Mary Dryden, probated 12 Nov 1838, of Lady Lake Grove, Mile End, Mdx : part owner of several ships managed by Thomas Dryden and John Dryden of Northumberland.
--- my soninlaw Robert Page, shipbroker of the Stock Exchange
--- my son, Stephen James Bridges Stanton of Hendon, Mdx
--- my daughter Mary Ann, wife of Robert Page
---my daughter Sarah Caney wife of Dr Henry Gough
---to Lydia Stanton of Hoxton
---for my grandson Joseph Henry Ridley Stanton
---for my grandaughters Mary Caney Stanton & Ann Caney Stanton

My interest is exploring this Dryden / Page connection.

London and Middlesex / Re: May Victoria FLEMING Who is this little girl ?
« on: Monday 13 July 15 03:12 BST (UK)  »
Hi Phil,

……….Is it possible she was adopted by Alfred and Mary Ann?

Her birth certificate doesn't rule out a family adoption before registration and I believe there are no records that can be checked for this period but in reconstructing her family I found another puzzle and wonder if they're connected.

James William Fleming & Ann nee Chant
   1. James William Fleming 1820 - 1910? m.1846 Eliza SHEEN

They lose Henry during the 1890s and possibly also had the arrival of May Victoria.  If this were true then May Victoria is the third cousin of her new 'siblings' in Alfred and Mary Ann's family (a new daughter into family of three boys?)

      ○ Alfred Fleming 1856-1920 m Mary Ann SMITH
§ Alfred, Andrew George & Bertie Fleming

   3. 7 other chn

Hope this makes sense.

Of course none of this explains the connection to your family! Have you considered yDNA testing? If you have a male Fleming from your tree and one from their tree testing should quickly identify a connection….or not :)

Hi Binman,

Found your post when rebuilding the Falkirk Fleming family on this page. You've probably moved forward yourself but am posting just in case.

From my searching (please please check all this yourself) your John married twice. Jessie Hendry (2nd wife) 17 Jul 1882 Bonhill, Dunbartonshire. They had James 1883; Robert 1885; Jane Bell 1887; George Henry 1889; Christina 1891; Jessie Hendry 1894 and Frederick 1899.

Back in 1849 John was living at Alloa when he married his 1st wife Elizabeth Thomson 31 Mar 1849 at Clackmannan, Clackmannan. They had Mary 1852; Helen 1854; William 1856; Elizabeth 1858 and Anstus /Anstice / Annie Thomson 1865.

Daughters Elizabeth & Anstice T both married in Milwaukee, USA Elizabeth to Donald Downie and Anstice to Joseph David Wassell. As Annie, Joseph & 4 chn were in the 1901 census at Motherwell and back in USA (Washington) for 1910 census.

John died 17 Jan 1905 at Galashiels aged 84. This names both his wives and Jessie also gave his parent details as John Fleming, merchant and mother Christian Thomson. Couldn't find parent's marriage or John's birth...anywhere! There's a marriage 1811 St Cuthbert's, Edingburgh btwn a William Fleming, merchant of West Wemyss and Christian Thomson and the only child I could find was a Mary 1812 at Wemyss.

Hi Dannemois,

It's been a few years since you posted this query so hopefully you've solved it already but in the Bedwelty marriage register David Aubrey married Elizabeth Emlyn Fox 27 Aug 1877.  Mary Fleming married Adam Cruickshank 3rd Sep 1877.

Hi Lynbee,
Are you still around because I connect to your Walter Fleming. Walter (who married Esther Mary Culwick) was born 1878 Mile End, Middlesex and was the only survivng son of Alfred Fleming & Elizabeth  nee Hobday. Alfred is my 3G uncle. Lots to swap if you're interested.

« on: Friday 19 June 09 04:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

Does anyone know of a very simple family tree program we can download to suit six and seven year olds?  We need to be able to use it on 4 classroom computers.

Many thanks Adam. I'm not sure about religion at this stage but will let you know when I get something other than CofE. The father, George was a boot maker from Wolsingham s/o Joseph & Elizabeth nee PEART.

Best Wishes
