Hello Phil,

I am overwhelmed by your kindness, thank you very much for all of your time.

If I were in England I would buy you a cup of tea and cake!

Thanks for all of your suggestions too, which I will try.

Best wishes,

Kelly.

Hello Phil,

You are so very kind, thank you.

Benjamin was a non-conformist and his family in Tamworth were associated with the Cole Hill Presbyterian church. Benjamin and Mary's first child baptised in Tamworth was Ann in 1775, followed by Thomas 1779 and Mary 1781. There may be others between 1768-1775 but not at any church in Tamworth. The eldest (that I know of), Elizabeth, was born about 1769.

As Benjamin and Mary married at St Thomas it is quite possible children were baptised there. I suppose when they went back to Benjamin's hometown they decided on joining the Presbyterian congregation to which the wider Lakin family belonged.

Thanks again,

Kelly.

Hello Phil,

Thank you for spending the time at The Hive, I am most grateful to you. I will keep these in my records and hopefully I can find a way to make a positive link with Mary.

Benjamin did return to Tamworth with Mary at some stage, though there is no baptism there for their eldest daughter Elizabeth (my ancestor) there are records for subsequent children.

Thanks once again,

Kelly.

If anyone is still following this thread and is interested, I have a great story about the marriage of Mary Ann Tuckwell and Elijah Brown from my 3xgreat grandfather's book. He was the minister who married them. Let me know if you'd like an excerpt.

Hello Phil,

I've searched all probate records available through Ancestry and Find My Past, and the National Archives, and found nothing for him. While he was related to the Hall End Lakin's I think he may have been a 'poorer cousin'. It was his sister Mary who married into that family (married James Lakin in 1747). His older brother Thomas seems to have been very successful, as his will is extensive and he leaves considerable assets and money to his nephews and nieces, including Benjamin's children. My thought was that Benjamin's family connections would have meant a good marriage, so Mary (Green) may have come from a good background. One can only guess.

Thanks for your suggestion. Perhaps there is a will out there somewhere for him, just not in online records.

Kelly.

Thank you Phil I will happily accept any pity you have for me! I do hope Mary or her family can be easily found in the St Thomas records. Her husband Benjamin comes from a respectable family, with links to the Lakins of Hall End. I'm not sure how well he fared though as there is no will. His brother Thomas seemed to have done well for himself and being without heirs he provided for much of his extended family.

Thanks once again, your kindness is greatly appreciated.

Thank you all so much!

I can't get to the UK at all so this is most helpful.

Mary married Benjamin Lakin (he was from Tamworth Staffordshire).

I see why this is problematic, I hadn't realised the county boundaries near Dudley. According to what I have found online the records should be at The Hive but not showing up in digitised collections for that parish.

I am really hoping to find Mary's family. Having a common name makes this a lot harder than it has been to find Benjamin's family. Benjamin was born in 1735, and their four children were born between 1769-1781 (baptised at Cole Hill Presbyterian which falls into Warwickshire records, though they are often recorded as being of Tamworth - another place which appears to straddle two counties).

Worcestershire / St Thomas Dudley parish records look up please 1700s

Hello,

I have been seeking records for this parish for the period early 1700s to 1760. Unfortunately all that is available online is outside of this time frame or for non-conformist records only. I can't get to The Hive, which has them on microfilm. Is anyone able to access these?

I am looking for the surname Green, more particularly Mary Green born circa 1732-1748. She married at St Thomas Dudley on 25 August 1767 and was of this parish.

Any help gratefully received.
