Australia / Re: Bowenfels area of NSW - looking for McKenna or similar surname

To "Old Bowenfels" or Bowenfels ?    To Wallerawang where it is now,   or where it was 150 years ago ?   Via the old road, or the new one ?

Oh, sorry,  it's actually 12 kilometres !    Sooorrrry !    I must have been walking quicker than usual when I covered that distance in two hours.

I think that falls within the scope of "about 10 km down the road".

Perhaps you can inform us how far it is to those nearby places in the general area of Bowenfels,   Cowra or Booroowa ?

The OP has asked a very vague question,   and named a specific, somewhat, obscure,  small place.

About a family with a name which is by no means uncommon,  and occurs by my count at over 20 places in New South Wales.

The OP almost certainly has more information about why they think this location is relevant.  What are the names of their potential relatives ?

I am quite happy to look up the parish maps for the area,  a field in which I have a little expertise.   I'm disinclined to do so over a 200 km wide "general area",   only to have the OP pop up again later on with more information which they all ready knew,  but for whatever reason did not bother to tell us.

In the 1850's,   the places where a BDM event at Bowenfels would have been registered,   are Hartley and Wallerawang.   I have actual events registered at those two places,   which are each about 10 km up and down the road from Bowenfels.

All those other places you mentioned are quite a long way away.   Bathurst would be the closest,   and it is two long days walk from Bowenfels,  and I know this,  because I walked there recently.

Why does the OP think their family was there ?  Don't waste our time casting an excessively wide net by withholding relevant information or hints.

I've read all the other posts...   John mother was a widow by 1861.

Why the intial insistence that he must have died within a narrow 9 month window ?     Did John's birth certificate state his father was already deceased ?

There is no point in "helping to search",  if the information being given initially seems to be a complete red herring.

There are scattered BMD references for McKennas in that era,   none closer than Mudgee or Bathurst which are 100 km and 60 km from Bowenfels.

None for Bowenfels, Lithgow, Hartley or Wallerawang  which would be the locations near Bowenfels.

Have you seen that there are two family trees at mundia dot com for Richard Thomas Waller who died in London in 1848 ?

On the Freebdm list which has Mary Ann Waller and John Daniel Stephen Dobson on it,    also appears Geret Vonswam.  Someone married the same day ?  Not sure how that works.

Where does your funny german name Vorwerg come from ?

I may have missed it,   but why exactly do you believe that John's father died between his conception and birth ?

So,  this woman married firstly in 1831,   and had another child later in 1855 ?     And the names seem to not match ?

Of course, it is not impossible for a woman to have another child 24 years after her marriage,  but given the name confusion also,  I'd be worried that these are two entirely different people.

It's also possible that Daniel Brant was her father,  but if her parents were originally not married,  her name as baptised might have been Summers,  her mother's name.
