I believe that I may have found out some more details from our local records, this may be the son of the person I am trying to trace.

John Coman born in Ireland 1845.

recorded in 2 census's 1871 and 1891 hull - england census records

Christopher,

Thanks for your help, I've been away for a week, have been checking out  the sites you have mentioned.

The Coman's seem to have settled mainly in the norfolk area of the UK and a lot have gone over the USA.

I have also made up a list of the coman's in the Yorkshire area, and will now check these out.

1891 census shows a margaretha e. coman born in 1880 in Hull

margaret emma coman Born in Hull 1879

mauguerite emma coman Marriaged 1898 in Hull to a charles frederick glover

I believe these are all the same person

Again thanks  for your help,

from what I can find there were at least to coman's in dunvargan, could be

many more - john coman - surgeon / patrick coman  - apothecary

I am still looking for that  gas lights connection.

Christopher,

I would be most please to receive any infromation on my "coman" ancestors,
the gas lights was the only link to my Irish ancestors, until yesterday when I received my grandmother's birth certicate, which had my great grandmother's maiden name on.

thank you and best wishes,

john

I have received details, which may throw light on the name I was trying to get imfro. on.

The correct name is COMAN - the location is still the same Dungarvan.

I have tried the local history society, but as yet received no reply to my email

I can be contracted on email address removed by moderator in accordance with Rootschat policy

I would be pleased to receive any help

Would it be possible to find out when gas lights were first in use in Dungarvan?

My Father had a cutting many years old about a close relative who he said had put in gas lights in Dungarvan and when the relative died, were he was buired, his grave had a eternal flame on it.

I never saw the cutting but my elder sisters clearly remember it.

They said the name was Corman/Gorman.

If any one can help we would be grateful.
