The Common Room / Re: Edward Prenter/Printer family Warringstown Ireland 1785

Hi -

My grandmother was Mary Prenter and I have traced her line back to Thomas Prenter and Ellen Savage, who were married in Lurgan in 1858. Thomas worked as a Weaver at the time of his marriage, and his father was Michael Prenter, a labourer. Have any of these names cropped up in your research? Perhaps Michael Prenter was a sibling of William if his son Thomas was also employed in the linen industry?

Oh that'd be great if you could share his will! In case you don't know, his daughter Margaret died in her 40s in 1888, and she was living in Belfast at that point. At PRONI recently I found a listing for John Moore in the 1864 directory as having a shoe-making shop on Downpatrick Street in Rathfriland. In the 1877 directory, the shop is then being run by Thomas Moore, who I assume was his son.

Hi, Clive -

Sorry to dust off such an old thread, but I couldn't seem to PM you.

I think the John Moore (shoemaker) you mention is my great-great-great-grandfather. My grandfather's father was the son of John Conlon and Margaret Moore, who were married in Rathfriland in 1864. On their marriage certificate, Margaret (aged 17 at the time) lists her father and his occupation as John Moore, a shoemaker. I have John's death certificate, but have not yet been able to obtain information on when (and to who) he was married, or when he was born (all I have to go on there is the age given on his death certificate.)

Hopefully we have the same John Moore and can be of some help to each other.

The Common Room / Re: More than one birth record for the same person??
« on: Thursday 24 April 14 22:40 BST (UK)  »
Just to throw in my own experience - I found two birth records for my great-grandmother after she was born in the Workhouse in 1900. One birth record was registered by the Workhouse, while the second was registered by her mother. My guess is her mother did not realise that the Workhouse here in Belfast automatically registers all births which took place within the building, hence the double record.
