I just wanted to thank everyone who has had some input into sorting out these Vernons and Masons Particular thanks to Ellenmai for the marriage information for Amos Vernon and Mary Mason  :) and huge thanks to dcbnwh (David) for the baptisms of both Amos Vernon and Mary Mason. Also for the information regarding Mary's siblings . . this was the tool that knocked down my brick wall  :D I already had a census record for Ann Lane (nee Vernon) who was the daughter of Mary and Amos Vernon, on the 1871 both she and her daughter Florence Annie were visiting in Enderby with William and Hephzibah Biddle. Hephzibah was Mary's sister  :) Also on that census as a visitor was an Isaac Gilliver and he turns out to be the son of Ann (another sister of Mary's) and John Gilliver. It all fits and I'm very, very happy  :D

Hi Cathy, the only Swaine I have from Gorey is Removed, who is actually still alive aged 96. There is quite a useful website that has lots of Irish parish and church records online. I've confirmed quite a few of my 'Earle's' BMD's from this site

Thank you Willsy  :) Yes I do have that one in my 'possible' file and I will have a closer look now that you've pointed me in the direction of a burial record for Bridget. I too have been unable to find a marriage for John and Bridget, but I was wondering that as she came from Ireland, she may have been Roman Catholic so I perhaps should widen the search area. I could be wrong but I don't think there is (or was) a Catholic Church in Stoney Stanton?

I actually have lots of headstone photo's from the churchyard at St Michael's so I will wade through them tomorrow and see if I can find a Bridget amongst them. Thank you once again  :)

Hi Cathy, I don't have a huge amount of info on the Swain's as my ancestry is through the Earle's. There seem to be a few vague 'touching points' with some that you've mentioned but nothing more than the locations really.
I have John Swaine, born about 1826 (can't find a birth record record) but in 1854 he was in Ballycarney, Wexford (Griffiths Valuation). He married Sarah Jane Bates on 22 Sep 1868, Ferns, Wexford. He was 42 she was 23. They had at least 9 children. John 1869, William 1870, Edward Samuel 1872, Abraham 1873, Peter 1875, Henry R 1879, Mary Frances 1879, Jeremiah Thomas 1881 and Alexander 'Alec' 1884.

Alec. Birth registered Enniscorthy 1884.
1901 census, aged 16, he was living at 8 Main Street, Newtownbarry in what appears to be some kind of hostel/boarding house. He was working as a drapers assistant.
1911. Back home with mother Sarah Jane (widow) and several adult siblings at House 8, Scarawalsh, Wexford
3 April 1918 he married Cecilia Elizabeth Beatrice Earle at Clone Church, Enniscorthy.
3 children form this marriage, all registered Enniscorthy.
(*) 1921 (still alive and living in Gorey)
(*) 1924 (no further info)
(*) 1927 (no further info)

Alec died on 17 Sep 1949. He was living in Scarawalsh at the time of his death.

Hope you get your Swaine's sorted! Good luck  :)

Thank you so much for your help David  :) I do have that 1841 census record, also have 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1891. He doesn't appear with Mary on the 1881 census but I did find a missing person report for an Amos Vernon, last seen at Nuneaton railway station on 14 Feb 1881 boarding a train for Manchester. From the details given I think this was most likely him. He is back with Mary in the 1891 census. He died on the 18 September 1892. The information regarding Mary's baptism is looking very hopeful! Thank you  :)

The Cecilia Elizabeth Beatrice Swaine mentioned by Jack2227 was my great aunt. Her maiden name was Earle. She married Alexander Swaine on 3 April 1918 at Clone Church, Enniscorthy. She was a National Schoolteacher.

Hi all, I am trying to find a birth record for Amos Vernon, born about 1816 in Stoney Stanton. Also his marriage to Mary Ann Mason from Enderby. I have so far found 4 children from this marriage, Ann b 1839, Charles David b 1844, Eliza b 1846 and George Edward b 1849. I have Amos and Mary Ann on all census up to 1902 when he died in Stoney Stanton. From the census information it appears that he was born in Stoney Stanton and lived there all his life. He was a master framework knitter and also owned a grocer shop. He is buried in Stoney Stanton churchyard along with Mary Ann.
