Hi Dissman,
First of all are we related?  Are you a descendant of Harriet Meen and Edward Batley?
As for Mary Jacob there was a family of Peter Jacob and his wife Sarah Marjoram (married 13 October 1789 in Finningham, Suffolk) not a million miles away from Yaxley which included a Mary.  According to the IGI there were three possible christenings - 2 July 1797 in Finningham, 5 April 1800 in Cotton, and 30 January 1797 - location unknown.  The earliest would have put her at about 16 at the time of her marriage to Daniel Meen.  I appreciate that this is highly speculative but could this be the same Mary Jacob.

I hit the same brick wall when researching back to my great great grandparents Edward Batley and Harriet Meen.  Edward died in February 1856 just before my Great Grandfather William Edward Batley was born.  Harriet later re-married in 1863 to Horace Collins in Mellis.
I hadn't picked up on the fact that Daniel Meen was 'baseborn' to Margaret Meen.  Nor had I come across a Mary Jacob.

The waterway theme continues in the Javens family - Charles' uncle Philip Javens (1811-1876) can be found moored in Fall Ings Lock, Wakefield, on board his vessel 'True Blue' alongside his son Philip Finney Javens Sr. (1845-1931) aboard his vessel 'Tyne'.  In 1871 the latter was Mate aboard 'Humber' in Myton, Hull, and in 1879 was master of 'Industry' plying the Barnsley Canal out of Wakefield.
Charles' parents were James Javens and Elizabeth Rushby.

I have traced my family back to 1699 finding that the surname was variously recorded as Chevins, Jevins, Javins, Javens - Mary Chevins christened 22.6.1785 in Egmanton was the daughter of Champion Chevins and Elizabeth Moor.  Both Champion's marriage and Mary's christening were recorded under the name Tavins, Champion was christened in Egmanton 20.12.1755, son of Philip Chevins (my 4x Great Grandfather) and Martha Wright.  Champion died 18.9.1839 in Ragnall - his brother Philip being my 3x Great Grandfather.
Champion and Elizabeth's other children, all christened in Egmanton, were John (Javins) (17.4.1787), William (Javins) (13.1.1789), Philip (Cheavins) (7.2.1791) and Martha (Chevings) (26.4.1793).
