Kipperharris, would you like to private message me to discuss this family further?

I haven't heard of the term North of Ireland Scotsman, does that mean they were part of the Ulster-Scots, Scots-Irish or is it another term for a person who settled in Northern Ireland from Scotland on their own?

I have the marriage certificate for John and Ellen and the birth certificates for all 3 children and they all state John was born in Ballymoney, Antrim, Ireland not Omagh as you suggest here.

I am also trying to find details of Ellen Burchill, who married my great grandfather, John Pollock.  While I can find where she arrived in Australia, I think John must have swum.  His parents were William Pollock and Margaret Lamb and he was born in Omagh, Antrim Northern Ireland round 1840.  I can find no birth details or marriage details of his parents.  Ellen and John are proving very frustrating.

Hi,
I'm glad to see someone else searching for this family. Can I just say Ellen and John had 2 children William John Pollock (my G Grandfather) and Margaret Elizabeth Pollock who married William John Woods. The timing of the birth of Ellens third child Herbert and the death of John Pollock exclude him from being the natural father even though Herberts birth and death certificates records John as the father.

I have also seen the record that states her name as Probert but to date I haven't been able to establish a direct link. I have been searching for years for more information and have never been able to establish Ellen dying or remarrying in Australia, or going back home to England. She is a mystery.

Today I received the 1841 death certificate for Louisa Aldous and can confirm it is for the wife of Thomas.

Hi,
There is a James Finnigan born 1841 dying aged 68 in 1909 in Leicester Volume 7a page 131.

Also, a marriage of James Finnigan in 1873 in the 4th qtr marrying either Mary Ann Thompson or Margaret Melia in Leicester Volume 7a Page 550.

Census 1881
James Finigan born 1843 aged 38 born in Ireland working as an Agricultural labourer living at 25 Abbey Street Leicester St Market. Living with wife Margaret aged 38 born in Whitwick and son Michael aged 7 daughter Bridgett aged 5, daughter Mary aged 0 (all kids born Leicester) and Patrick brother aged 42 working as a General Labourer born in Ireland.

Census 1891
James Finnegan widower aged 48 Coal Heaver born in Galway living in Baker Street Leicester with son Michal  17 Shoe finisher, son John 7 scholar, daughter Bridget 15 Hosiery hand and daughter Mary 10 scholar.

Census 1901
James Finnigan living at Benford Street Leicester, aged 53, widower, born in Ireland in 1848, farm labourer. Living there with son John (17 farmers waggoner), daughter Mary A (20 hosiery brusher) and a Boarder Sarah Cahill (17 hosiery seamer).

Patrick Finnigan born in 1840 dying aged 47 in 1887 in Leicester Volume 7a Page 134.

I also noticed in the Leicester Journal dated 17 September 1841 it mentions another brother Michael.

Hope that helps
Regards

Just thought I would add to this, I am also descended from Louisa Poll / Thomas Aldous. I checked the NBI that stated a Louisa Aldous was buried at St Lawrence aged 37 at Brundish (as is stated in this thread) in 1840, checked for a death record of Louisa Aldous that corresponded (1840 2nd qtr) checked the census in 1841 and found Thomas with children including a baby James aged 6 months and confirmed Louisa wasn't with them. Therefore I sent away for her death certificate to see if it might provide any clues to her past.

Today I received the certificate and just wanted to let anyone related know this record is definitely not for Louisa Aldous / Poll. There is another Louisa Aldous that died in the 2nd qtr in 1841 that I think is more likely now seeing Thomas remarried in 1848 (another certificate I need to order) and if the James Aldous born in 1840 was the one that came from the 4th qtr she would have been alive and well when the NBI states she was buried. So I expect the NBI has the year incorrectly recorded, I will probably order this 1841 record in the coming months and will advise if it relates to Louisa Poll.

Hi, The name as I read it is Dongo, there is a Dongo in Lombardy Italy so maybe your family have some connection to this region.
