Hello,
I just came across this post today as I was also looking for this address.  My GG Grandparents lived at this address in 1911.  Is your father William by chance?
Cheers,
Cathy Simeon

Family History Beginners Board / Wales - Father surnames different from childs
« on: Thursday 08 May 14 05:32 BST (UK)  »
Can someone please explain these searches I found on ancestry.co.uk while searching for the surname Simeon?  As you can see there are a number of people from Wales with the last name Simeon but the father's name is consistently Simon and I'm not really sure if that is even the last name or first name.  Is there a reason so many different families would change their children's last name?  It just seems unreasonable that it would be the same typo over and over again.
If anyone has any insight I would be curious to hear it.
Thanks,
Cathy

I may have found something in regards to my search.  Please see photo.   Can anyone tell me more about "Abode - Barnaker"?

Also, here is the exact wording in the Liverpool Gazette Aug 20th 1781 (spelling mistakes and all):

Fourteen year old boy fathers son.  A Boot Boy employed by well seated squire is claimed to be the father of a son born to a maid sevant.  On insruction she was removed from her employ to an unknown home.  The boys father was a Foot Man at the same address. The baby was named John Simeon and the father Francis Simeon. The mothers name was not recorded. Baby John is to be passed to family being that the mother left the home without the baby and it is not known where she resides.

Can anyone tell me what a Boot Boy and Foot Man is?

Mosiefish,

May I ask, when you found the birth of Margaret Simmons, what did you search for?  Did you search all the spelling possibilities of Simeon or did it come up as a possible match just being close in the name with John and Jane being listed as the parents?  I guess it would do me good to know what site you found it on too.  I am on a learning curve here and I am finding that people I eventually find probably should have come up in earlier searches and searching for variations of the surname has opened up a whole new can of worms for me.  :)

Yes, tricky.  But those are great leads.  Thank you so much!

I'll have to take another look, thank you.  Can anyone give me advise on where to look for John's parents next?
