Hello Frances, Iain et al.,
FYI, I had no luck getting in touch with Richard Ross, much to my disappointment.  Iain, your recent post has piqued my interest enough that I might try again.  Additionally, a distant Ross cousin who lives here in Canada (BC) will be in Ireland in late June, taking a genealogy course and visiting Midleton.  I am trying to muster up some good leads for her to look in to.
Regards to all,
Christopher Ross.

Hi Frances,
Not sure if I am understanding the protocol here, but I would rather a certain measure of discretion, agreed.
Thanks again,
Chris.

Hello Frances,

I very much appreciate your offer of help.  How funny that Sandy Ross was a neighbour!  I am in the midst of finding his siblings, all of whom left Midleton after being born there; however, what I am particularly interested in is how the Ross family got to be in Midleton in the first place.

I found a Coleman Ross who owned property in Rostellan and Titeskin, d. 1873, and was buried in Midleton, wondering if there is a connection, if he might be the first one.

The oldest ancestor I know of is Alexander Ross, who died 7 Sep 1872, aged 62.  I don't know his wife Mary Ross' maiden name (I found her first name through estate reords), but presume they would have been married c. 1835.

They had 7 children that I know of:

Cornelius Paul Ross b. 1839, m. Elizabeth Catherine Mahony;
Julia A Ross b. 1845 Midleton, d. 1917 Midleton, unmarried;
Alexander Ross, b. 1848, m. Mary Dalton 1870, d. 1913 Midleton;
David St. John Ross b. 1851, m. Caroline C.;
Mary Anne Ross b. 1854, d. 1876 Midleton;
John James b. 1855;
James Daniel b. 1857.

Midleton is a place that despite its obvious importance to my family is largely unknown to me -- I have pieced the tree together on few clues, hints (occupation: distiller or brewer), and would love any confirmation that these 7 kids are issued of the union of A & M Ross.

Thank you so much for your time.  Please do let me know how I can thank you for doing this.
Kind regards,
Christopher Ross.

Hello,
My family in Midleton, ROSS, appears to have been there from the early 1800s to the 1960s.  I would love some help, but don't know how far back the church records go.  My great-great grandfather Alexander (Sandy) ROSS died and was buried in Midleton in 1872, and my great grandfather James Daniel ROSS was born there c. 1857.  There are scads of other Rosses in the records ... the men were all distillers.
Regards,
Christopher Ross
Montreal, Quebec.
