Thank you, Rathmore, I will do as you suggest. The evidence suggests that he worked as a rent collector for the Carysfort Estate.

Thanks for your suggestion, Our Gang, but the Edward Evans families on your link to FamilySearch are unrelated to the Evans family of Arklow, Co. Wicklow. I already have quite a lot of information about Edward's descendants and extended family but I am stumped in my attempts to explore his details. There are Evans families in Greystones, Delgany and Wicklow town but these are not directly related to the Arklow lot. They are a Church of Ireland family but the parish records were destroyed in the explosion and fire in the Four Courts, Dublin in 1922.

I am researching the family line of Edward Evans (1801-1852)a rent and rates collector of Main Street, Arklow. The information that I have about his birth and death dates is by word of mouth but I have been unable to find evidence to confirm it. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.

Regarding Kenneth Cooke's comment about the inscription on Rev Eugene Sweny's headstone being difficult to read, the following is the actual inscription:
''In loving memory of the Rev. Eugene Sweny for 23 years Rector of this parish [St John the Baptist] and Morston who departed this life on May 18th 1906 aged 69'.
There is no mention of his wife, Elizabeth (Ovens).

First of all, I would like to congratulate all contributors to this really excellent forum. It is a credit to all of you. My connection to the Sweny family is through my great grandmother, Amelia Sarah Sweny (1852-1928) who married Edward Nicholson Harding (1847-1938).
I did not think that I would have anything of interest to add to the discussion, but I may have! In an earlier post Kenneth Cooke discussed the Rev. Eugene Sweny. It is known that he was rector of a parish in Norfolk for the last 23 years of his life. What may be of interest is that a photo of his headstone in the graveyard of his parish of St John the Baptist is available online. It can be accessed at http://www.gravestonephotos.com/public/gravephoto.php?grave=222803&requestee=30454&scrwidth=1300.

Wicklow / Re: evans family

I have been reading this chat in the hope that someone may be researching the Evans family of Arklow. The direct family line in which I am particularly interested includes Edward Evans (1801-1852), John Fairbrother Evans (1837-1915), John Fairbrother Evans (1876-1937). There appears to be no connection with Evans in Greystones/Delgany/Wicklow. Is there anyone out there who shares this interest?
