Yes, and that is where I will try 1st because Mohaghan Town is where he is supposed to have come from.  I know that after his marriage in Castlewellan Co Down in the 1840's the family was Presb, but that does not mean his family was.  Lets hope

According to the "Family history", David had two sisters who he never heard from after they emigrated.  This gives me more names to check when I get to Co Mohaghan this Jan.  Anything I can look up for you?

Almost forgot, where did you get the  Griffiths Valuation map, and does it include Clonoony?  It is on the road to Wattle Bridge just as it crosses out of Monaghan into Fermanagh.

I have the 1:50,000 map and it shows a Clonnagore in the upper part of the Drummully salient or enclave - the "thumb" of Monaghan that sticks into Fermanagh.  There is a Clonkeelan just north which is near a river, but there is no lake.  I am interested in the Clonoony Townland SW of yours.  Supposedly, my grgrgrandfather, Hugh McGuire was born there in 1807.  If you get or see the 1:25,000 and it is better, let me know.  If you Google "Clonoony" and look for an entry with GMANE in it, you will see some pictures border crossings, one just north of your townland.  I am working on finding out what map was used, since it names buildings.
