To jonw65 Thank you for your expertise and time to search for this Lithograph which I have misplaced.
Yes this is what I was searching for. I will probably find my copy now. Again I thank you from Australia.

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Mr Grays Academy Westminster 1840
« on: Tuesday 19 November 19 06:08 GMT (UK)  »
I am searching for an image of Mr Grays Academy which I believe I have seen before in the UK Archives or National Library. My great grandfather was a scholar there from 1838 to 1842 approx.

Thank you all for your help to date.
John Simmons mother Mary Simmons (nee Wells) died 24/01/1871 Eccleston Square London.
Our records indicate she was buried at Norwood cemetery.
I assume Norwood translates to the North wood.
Can anyone shed some light on a Norwood cemetery close to the Westminster area and would there be plot records or such.
John Simmons father James Simmons died circa 1848 in London and there is a possibility they may both be buried in Norwood Cemetery
Cheers from Australia

Great work Ruskie.
I love the photo.
I have John Simmons in 1841 census living with parents James and Mary and 5 siblings at Hudson Terrace, St John the Evangelist, Westminster, Middlesex.
James and Mary married at St Mary's Lambeth 01/01/1826.
I am struggling to find any record of James or Mary (nee Wells) predecessors.
I assume Mr Gray's Academy would have been a private school which would charge fees for tuition.
Any ideas on where to direct my research.
Cheers

Seeking information regarding Mr Gray's Academy in London.
My great grandfather born 1830 London was educated at this academy between years 1838 to 1842. He emigrated to Australia in 1858.
I do not believe it to be the Grey Coat school. I say this because I still possess my great grandfathers' school books and a presentation book for merit dated Xmas 1842 with a handwritten inscription stating.

"Mr Grays' Academy
Presented as a reward
of merit
to Master John Simmons
Xmas 1842"

Australia / Re: Captain George MACDONALD, Morar
« on: Wednesday 05 March 14 10:44 GMT (UK)  »
Tracing a Flora McDonald who I believe was on board the "Bengal Merchant" en route to Australia 1834 - 1835 along with Captain George McDonald. The Sydney Herald Mon 2 Feb 1835 Shipping Intelligence lists passengers Capt McDonald, Mrs McDonald, Miss McDonald, Misses Eliza, Charlotte, Emily, Louisa, Sarah, and Elizabeth, Masters Charles and Richard McDonald. My Flora McDonald writes from on board to her brother J or I Denoon, hence I assumed she could have been Captain McDonalds wife. Can anyone shed any light. I still have the letter dated Nov 21st 1834.
Thanks all in anticipation......S R
