Angus (Forfarshire) / James Spence 1808/1882

I have found in my research that James Spence (b 1808 in Auchterhouse d 1882 in Balmoral Place, Edinburgh) is my 2 x Great Grandfather. I think (!) I know that he married Christina McGlashan in Kinnoull, Perth in April 1833. As I live in Worcestershire my research is limited to the internet. Can anyone give me any details of the Spence or McGlashan families? One of their children, David, spent most of his life in Edinburgh but was born in England in 1849. This is how I came to find myself with a Scottish background!!
I would appreciate whatever help is available.

Many thanks Mike for your help. Your comment has given me a clearer understanding of what a GEDCOM does.

Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Downloading a GEDCOM file
« on: Saturday 12 December 15 12:00 GMT (UK)  »
I have a subscription to Ancestry and use Family Tree Maker.
If I download a GEDCOM file with my family tree data to RootsMagic 7 will all of my media info be transferred as well ie photographs; photocopies of certificates; census pages etc etc as well as data about my family?
Also I am not sure what is contained in a GEDCOM file.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
