Thanks Annie, that's a great tip! I had a trial of  anc*stry but it seemed very limited re Scotland so I have not joined up since.

All the Best

Hi Sancti,
Thank you for that - it will definitely be worth a visit when I am next up in Scotland (I live in Cheshire at the moment) now that I know for sure there are at least some stones with the name on them.

Really good of you to reply:)

Hello Annie,
Thank you for taking the time to reply! I was hoping the older ones might appear in the churchyard as you are right about the census - there seem to be lots of Russells which are not obviously my relatives and a farming family which is (so far) not related to my miners. I will widen the search as you suggest and have found a book which seems to list burials and mortcloths on another site which might shed some light on it too.
Thanks again for your suggestions - much appreciated :)

Lanarkshire / Re: Carnwath Graveyard - Russel(s)

Hello,

I am tracing my family who seem to have been based in Carnwath for generations. So far death dates are hard to come by so I wondered if anyone could advise whether any likely candidates are buried in the churchyard. Some names and dates of birth are:-

Name              Birth
Russel, George     1804 - Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland
Russel, James     06 Oct 1765 - Carnwath
Russell, George  20 Oct 1847 - Carnwath, Lanark
Russell, Isabel  13 Jul 1841 - Carnwath, Lanark
Russell, John Campbell  2 June 1838 - Carnwath, Lanarkshire, Scotland

Any hints as to how to get to the deaths would be greatly appreciated - it seems they are not available via Scotland's People :'(

Many thanks!
Mildred
