Canada Lookup Request / Re: How to find family on passenger lists?
« on: Tuesday 17 June 14 06:51 BST (UK)  »
Pages 20 and 24 of that file on Vaclav mentions a "proposed sureity," Stanley Yecny of Esterhazy, which is near Kolin, where a Joh. Salaba and Sophia Yecny lived.  ???

edit: Just searched the OurRoots.ca website...

page 169 of "The History of Atwater, Saskatchewan" says that a Joe Knezacek married Sophia Yecny. She passed away in 1912 or 1913. He then married a Johanna Salaba and they farmed in the Atwater, Saskatchewan district. When he passed away in 1937, Johanna remarried and passed away in Stocholm, Saskatchewan in 1949.

Interestingly, Vaclav's youngest daughter was named Jennie Knezacek. Not sure how she got her last name. Joseph Knezacek of Atwater is mentioned on page 20 of Vaclav's file and on 23 as a "proposed sureity."

Hello S1233,
I would be very interested in what you have found here. I believe that Johanna(Johene) is my mother in laws grand mother. I am very interested in where she is from and the relationship to Anna and Stasyja. I found in the national archives from the uk the original document that had her Anna and Stasyje boarding the Albania.

Hi Jim, my old account was S1233 but I forgot the password... I am still trying to learn more about Johanna, Anna, and their family. Please let me know how I can get in contact with you so we can trade what information we have about the family. Thanks.

I would like to have any info you have on this. I cannot respond by messages. I have not posted enough i guess. If you see this please message me with an alternative to contact you (e-mail?).

  Jim

Hello, I sent you a message with my email address. Feel free to email me anytime. :) I have one picture of Johanna/Jennie that I can send you as well.

Canada / Requesting naturalization/citizenship records?
« on: Wednesday 29 January 14 19:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hello all,

Has anyone here ever requested a search of Canadian citizenship or naturalization records from Library and Archives Canada/Citizenship and Immigration Canada?

I have been thinking about requesting some of my European ancestors' naturalization records (they would actually be from the card indexes since they immigrated to Canada pre-1917), but I'm interested in how long it took to receive your records. I haven't requested anything from the government before but I feel like it would take several months to receive anything.

Thanks :)
