Davidp41 said 'I am wondering if this section of phillipps is linked to George Augustus Phillipps born 1792-4 in the Bristol area. Does anyone have a link to him as his ancestors are proving elusive! Some trees report the father as Jacob William but no evidence found yet to support that.

Reply - it's unlikely that George Augustus Phillipps (GAP) born around 1788-1794 in Bristol is connected to the main family mentioned in this story line.  If there is a link, it is going to be well before about 1650, and cannot be discounted.  Lots of work in progress on this one.  GAP's father was 100% definitely Jacob William Phillipps born 1763 in Bristol.

I have a William Mollart in very close geographic proximity at abou the same time.  He was son of William Mollart c1805 and Hannah Owen c1807.  Possibly of Hanley, Shelton or Longton.  His sibblings were John, Frank, Edna, James, Henry, Hester (my link) and Hannah.

Ring any bells.

Dumfriesshire / Mollart - McMeekan - Caerlaverock

Hi Ruth Amy

Quite a number of the Mollart's from Staffordshire area in the UK (Stoke on Trent) descended from Jehan Mollart b c1695 in Charenton, Paris.  His son William born 1720 was described as 'of France and Staffordshire'.

William married Johanna Jackson and their four children were William, Mary, Elizabeth & John.

Their eldest sone William married Martha Scarrett of Longton, near Stoke on Trent and they had children William (c1788) and Mary.  I assume this William may also have married and so the Mollart name would have continued, but I have no info on this yet.  Perhaps he had a son called Samuel Mollart.

The daughters Mary & Elizabeth may have married, but I assume the Mollart name would have thin been lost.

The fourth child John Mollart married Martha Chetwynd of Wolstanton near Stoke on 16th October 1787, and they had 22/23 children in all, but I don't know all the names.  Perhaps a Samuel Mollart was amongst them ?  I'm assuming their children were born between 1791 and about 1815.  Several went to Sydney Australia.  John Mollart himself was famous because he was the designer for Wedgwood who in 1806 designed their first Willow Pattern china.

Good hunting, Martin

I have a Mollart link to Wolstanton near Stoke on Trent.

John Mollart born 1766 married Martha Chetwynd who was born c1770 in Wolstanton.  The evidence I have suggests they went to live in Stoke on Trent or perhaps Shelton-under-Harley.  They married 16th October 1787.

They had 22/23 children.  Some of the names were Edna, Elizabeth, Catherine, Mary-Anne, Jane, John, Esther, Robert, William, and 13 others.  DoB's range from approx 1791 to perhaps 1815.  This is a bit vague.

Their son William Mollart (c1805) married Hannah Owen and had 8 children c1834-1846, namely John, William, Frank, Edna, James, Henry, Hester (b1842) and Hannah.

Hope this helps.  I am also keen to track down more links to the Mollart name.  The Mellor name does not figure in my tree.

Martin.

As far as I can see the Mollart name was jumping from generations and used as a middle name just in order to preserve the Mollart name.

I have three original handwritten trees for the Mollart family dating back to late 1600's in Paris (Jehan Mollart is the most distant name, and was born in Paris maybe around 1690's).  His son William Mollart ('of Staffordshire and France') was the first to settle in the UK and his four children had numerous children of their own.

Perhaps the most famous (probable) descendant was John Mollart, who lived in Stoke on Trent and was a 'designer for the potteries'.  I have yet to verify this info, though I know a J Mollart was a Wedgwood designer in 1806 and designed and engraved Wedgwood's first 'Willow Pattern' (the classic blue and white designs from that era).

He had 23 children, so the Mollart name was proliferating strongly.  13 of them wend to Sydney, Australia around 1835. and the others remained around Stoke of Trent, went to Congleton, Sandbach (some say Sandwich), and Manchester.

The Manchester Mollart link ended up with Hester Mollart marrying James Rogerson.  The Mollart name then re-apperead a few generations later, hence quite a number of Mollart-Rogerson family are still around.  maybe the same thing applied to the Mollart-Rivers name, though this is new to me.

Martin.
