Dear Craig,

Just an update to say I do have Ann Clark's birth cert after all (a mix-up in my file folders). She was born on 10 November 1765 in Kinnairdy, Marnoch, Banffshire.

Best wishes,

Iain

Dear Craig,

James Taylor and Ann Clark were my great-great-great-great-grandparents through their son William, which I reckon makes us some kind of cousins.
I have copies of all their certs except for Ann Clark's birth cert, but I'm having a problem sending you them as attachments, so what I'll do is give you the details that's on them.

1. James Taylor:
born 15 February 1856 in Wakerdales, Rathven, Banffshire;
died 2 March 1832 in Newmill, Keith, Banffshire
married Ann Clark on 5 August 1788 in Ramore, Deskford, Banffshire
parents: James Taylor and Elspet Forbes
2. Ann Clark:
died 26 July 1836 in Newmill, Keith Banffshire
parents: James Clark and Isobel Webster

If you would like copies of the certs, just send me your email address.

Best wishes,

Iain Taylor

Hi Sheila,

That's amazing, but not as amazing as a discovery I made a few months ago that one of my oldest friends and I had the same great-great-grandfather, on Farquhar Stewart's side. We only met as students - she from Forfar and myself from Elgin.

I have quite an extensive ancestor chart at myheritage.com which I am more than happy to send on to you in the event that it might be of help.

Best wishes,

Iain

Hi Sheila.

I am Jean's nephew. The family tree is:

Farquhar Stewart married Jane Ann Hutcheon (Portgordon), and their children were, Isobel (my mother), Jean, Ada and Robbie.

Isobel married William John Taylor (Buckie) and their children are me, Brian and Steven.
Jean married Tom McDonald (Elgin) and their children are Susan, Stewart and Alison.
Ada married Stewart Campbell (Edinburgh) and their children are Ann and Alan. Stewart died in Australia and Ada married Max Richardson (England) and their daughter is Maxine.
Robbie married Rita Rennie (Portsoy) and their children are Jill, Kevin and Sonya.

What a small world.

Hello Sheila,

Robert was also my great-grandfather. His son Farquhar (my grandfather on my mother's side) was the one who was in the Seaforths.

Thanks for your reply,

Iain

I was very interested to read the post about William Stuart/Stewart of Charlestown, Knockbain who was my 3xGreat-grandfather too. The names of his parents and approximate year of birth are very useful. I am related to him through his son Colin who moved to Balormie, Drainie in Moray and was my grandfather's grandfather.

I never knew why my grandfather was in the Seaforths rather than the Gordons until I discovered the Ross-shire connection!

Aberdeenshire Lookup Requests / Re: Davidson. birth 1813c gamrie
« on: Monday 06 January 14 20:18 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there. I have a record of an ancestor of mine called George Davidson, born 27:11:1814 in Gamrie and died 30:05:1863 in Gamrie, married in July 1845 in Gamrie to Margaret Booth, also of Gamrie. George Davidson's parents seem to have been James Davidson and Jean Torie, but I have no details about them. Margaret Booth was born 14:10:1821 in Gamrie but I couldn't find a record of her death. Her parents were Peter Booth, born 1786 and Jean Craik, born 1777. They were married in Gamrie on 27:09:1812 and both died in 1859 (Peter on 8 January and Jean on 19 December).

George Davidson and Margaret Booth had a daughter Helen, born around 1853 who is my great-great-grandmother, but I can't find any further details about her.

I hope this helps, but I'm sure other people have better information than me.

Best wishes.
