Channel Islands Lookup Requests / Jersey, Carter, Parish register lookup.
« on: Friday 22 August 08 15:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

this is a bit of a needle in a haystack job.

All I know is that John Carter was born in 1808 in Jersey. I have no idea of what parish.   :(

Can anyone look to see if there is a christening record for him.

By 1841 he was living in Essex uk.
He died in Grimsby1882.

I have no knowledge of who his family were in Jersey.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Saphy

Hi Ricky,

thank you very much for finding that.

Is anyone able to check the parish registers to see if their is a baptism for that George Carter. There is not one predominant family religion so could be any denomination.

Saphy.

Hi Barbara,

I have seen George's Marriage certificate.

George Carter Married Joan Mowat on the 20th August 1865 in Pierwall Westry the orkney islands.

on the record his residence is listed as being Great Grimsby. His Parents are recorded as John Carter and Mary Ann Bird. Dad is a Seaman and neither is listed as being deceased.

George carter died on the 22nd of November 1867 aged 25 years, he was lost at sea from the fishing smack the empress which sailed from the port of Grimsby.

he left Joan and 2 children George Sinclair Carter and Mary Elizabeth Carter. Joan was pregnant with Mary When he died. By the 1871 census Joan had remarried and was living in Orkney with her new husband.

Today i have also been trying to find a record of Gerges death with no luck. I have tried find my past ( 1837 online) but with no luck. We ave also tried Scotlands people to see if his death was recorded in scotland but he does not show there either- he was lost at the dogger bank.

feeling very stuck- Saphy.

Hi

I am trying to find some people who do not exist. - I cannot locate them on any census but believe they may lived in Grimsby.

I am looking for either a birth/ baptism  for George Carter born in Great Grimsby c1842.
or his Parents John Carter and Mary Ann Bird. John was a seaman. they would have married prior to 1842 (I hope)

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it I know it is a bit needle in a haystack.

Many Thanks

Saphy

Wow ;D ;D ;D
that is them.
this is great as the two children are from his first marriage !!
I did not know about them before.
the ages for James & Isabella match and I presume that Ann is his mother.
as you have access to the B'ham 1841 census would you be able to look for Christopher & Ann Johnson, they are Isabella's Parents.

Thank you very much.
