The Common Room / Customs excise staff service registers

I understand that a lot of records have been digitalised on the SOG website but they are officers born after 1833, any idea where I need to look for someone born before that?  I'm going round in circles for my sins.

many thanks

World War One / Re: ww1 motorcycle despatch rider

On the subject of MC despatch riders, here are 3 photos of my uncle, Frank Henry Powell, b. 1898 in London.
I know very little about his military service, but I think I have found his medal card (RE Cpl 182239, Victory+British, but no Star).
If someone could confirm that this is a RE cap badge, I would be grateful. Also the motor cycle (Triumph?) and any clue as to location?

Thanks
Andrew

Firstly I can confirm it is an RE cap badge, being an ex RE Despatch Rider/Instructor I should know what it looks like.

On another point.  I am the editor of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch newsletter http://www.rblr.co.uk/content/newsletters/newsletter16.pdf and our next issue is coming out in March and it will be biased towards WWI being the 100 yr anniversary.  We are also attempting to increase the funds we raise this year to £1 million for the Poppy Appeal.

For the cover we are looking for a pic of a WWI despatch rider and I saw this one of your Uncle, I would like to ask your permission to use it on the cover of our next newsletter, I can include your uncles service history inside if you sent it to me.  I would also get a copy sent to you once it has been printed.

Please let me know either way @ newsletter@rblr.co.uk
