Thanks Seaweed and Davie

It was a shot in the dark, we know very little about him apart from what appears on the census returns and his childrens birth certificates, from that we guessed that he was born in 1867 in Ireland and that his parents were John and Janet Queen.

It's very frustrating, my Uncle had been told by my Gran that he went to sea, thought it was possible they kept records with more info, as I said a shot in the dark.

We have been told that my Great Great Grandfather John Queen/Quinn worked on the cargo ships sometime after 1895 when my GG Grandmother died, he cannot be found in the 1901 and 1911 census, and his children were in St Mary's in Glasgow in the 1901 census, he died in Glasgow in 1921.

Would it be possible to find out if he was on the cargo ships, and if so how would I go about finding out?

Thanks

Hi Chris

I was hoping you could help, I have been told that my Great Grandfather was buried in St Joseph's, could you check you database to see if you have a headstone for him?

James Caufield 09/12/1941 he was 51

There could possibly be children buried with him.

Thanks

Hi

We have been to Mitchell Library and could not find them until they were adults and we do not have any family information as they did not talk about their childhood.  I have spoken to my Uncle who knew them best but he could tell me very little.

That is probably them in the orphange how did you find that information out as I have tried the Scotlands People site with the various variations on their name and it did not come up?   I must have went wrong somewhere.

Thanks for you help

Yes that's them, the family lived with the grandmother until the mother died in 1895 as that is the address on her death certificate.

There is a possibility that the father worked on the cargo ships and that they went into a home or orphanage.  Have tried different variations of the names but have not found them.

Thanks

Lanarkshire / Help finding relatives on 1901 census

I am hoping someone can help me with this?

Can't find Great Grandmother and Great Aunt in the 1901 census, I can find them in the 1891 and 1911 census.

GGGrandmother died in 1895.  At that time they were called Queen.  When Great Grandmother and Aunt resurfaced in the 1911 census their name had changed to Quinn.  We think there was a chance they ended up in an orphange, or they were farmed out to another family.

Great Grandmother - Annie Mort Scotland Queen (Quinn) DOB 04/06/1888
Great Aunt - Janet McCallum Queen (Quinn) DOB 13/04/1890

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
