Wiltshire / What am I looking at?
« on: Sunday 08 June 14 15:59 BST (UK)  »
I have been researching my husband's Hoskins/Haskins relatives  and have now arrived in Wiltshire with Henry Haskins b 1648 Warminster. His father is Morris Haskins. I cannot find much about Morris other than he had another child Elizabeth AND an Ancestry entry entitled "England Extracted Parish and Court Records" Bundle H42. Collections England - calendar of Chancery Proceedings, Bills and Answers filed in the reign of King Charles 1st.

Can someone tell me where to look further to find out more about this? I have never come across this before

Well I finally "bit the bullet" and upgraded my Ancestry. I believe I have now found George. He was baptised in 1747 to William and Esther. They also had William, Robert, John, Samuel and Esther. The youngest of them all being born in 1736.
I then went looking for the marriage of William and Esther. I found two possibilities. One in Down Hatherley and one in North Nibley. Unfortunately at the time I didn't write down the details as I went, thinking to go back again. Now the one in Down Hatherley, I think I can now discount as it is quite a little away from the Wotton area and also this couple of William and Esther had a child in the same year as one of George's younger brother. Now I cannot find the  marriage of the William and Esther  who married in North Nibley on 1735, I think it was. I spent nearly all day yesterday trying to find it again and all of this morning. I know that I definitely saw it

Victor, is there a chance that you could look for this couple in North Nibley when you are next in the Archives? ;D

Awww Victor, what a shame.  I will just have to keep looking.  Thank you so much for trying for me. Guess George must have hitched a ride from somewhere else. lol.

Hi Victor,  I know that the written word  does not always come across as genuinely meant but I really would be grateful if you would do this.

Giggsy and Alpine, those cottages look gorgeous.  They look so much larger than I would have expected Almshouses to be, although climbing the stairs might have been troublesome for a 94 year old!!! Also, surprised that his son Mark was allowed to live with him. He is down as a weaver but of course me might no longer have been working by 1841.

George has come up as living in the first cottage after Adeys Lane in he census. Does anyone know if this would be the cottage at the top LH end of the rows or the bottom RH one?

Wotton under Edge has 3 lots of Almshouses??? How caring. No wonder families stayed in the area for a long time.

Victor, do you actually go to the Gloucester Archives for yourself? Truly, I wouldn't want you to go there especially.  I see that there are a couple of CDs I can buy but they are further back than my George would be, so not much point yet.

Yes, thanks Victor, I did have the marriage and as I said their firstborn, another George was born Hawkesbury as well. What I need to know, now, is where to look for George's birthplace/date. I cannot get to Wotton myself, in then next 6 months.  I have spent so long looking today that my head is spinning, lol.

Ah, I hadn't realised that, I was only looking at Wotton Under Edge only.

I have now found Mark on IGI, he is George's son. I also found a William and Hannah on the IGI site but don't know if they are born too late to be the children of my George and Mary
