World War Two / Re: WW2 no service record?

It was the WW2 records that I was interested in.  Lost in a black hole between the MoD and TNA I suspect.

If you see many of the Posts on here and other Forums from those who have Received their Relatives WW2 Records are Complaining
 that they can't understand them
because they are written in Abbreviations and with Codes - so you'll need the 373 pages of Abbreviations and Codes to help you - after you have paid for the Pages that they Copy of the Records for you that they found.

If he was Demobbed in Spring 1919 like so many
His WW1 Army Records would have been sent by them as an Ex Soldier to their Repository Storeroom at Arnside Street in 1920 where they were All kept securely until September 1940  when the Repository was Blitzed and approximately 60 Percent were Destroyed Burnt - the 40 Percent that Partly Survived partly Burnt has been Scanned by Ancestry and held by them under Military-  Service Records
If you have looked under them and had success then there are no Records anywhere else then.
Applications for WW2 Records from the MOD are currently attempting to reduce their Two Year Backlog but at the same time the Transfer to the National Archives is also taking place over the next Few Years.

What do you mean you can't find his Records Where?
When did you apply to the MOD for his Records?
What information do you have already about WW1?
And from where?

World War One / Re: Military Medal WW1

Hello Dave

My grandfather serving with the 2nd Batt. Coldstream Guards was awarded the Military Medal it was Gazetted 27th October 1916. Looking at your recent post would I be right in saying I would need to be looking at the War Diaries about 3 months prior to it being in the Gazette.

Thanks

Ryhopelad

I would suggest 4 months prior

My Granddad Earned his 20th September 1917 on the Menin Rd East of Ypres - The Divisional Commander signed the Citation Card on 4 October 1917 presumably at his presentation of it In the Field on that day - But it did not get into the London Gazette until Mid January 1918  - 4 months after the Day Earned

Ancestry appear to have his documents - a bit tattered!!

Patrick Mooney - born 1878, demobbed 15 June 1919, address given as 59 High Street, Dumbarton - single.  Letter with address of 25 Gordon Street, Whiteinch, Glasgow asking for a copy of his discharge.  :-\

Tattered?? They survived partially Burnt in the September 1940 Blitz of the Arnside Street Repository where it had been  safely stored for 20 years.  -He was awarded Pip Squeak and Wilfred as he went Overseas to France 14 July 1915 not 1914 - his Attestation in 1914 shows he had served his Full Term as a Soldier in the Argyle and Southern Highlanders probably after 1908

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Birth Registration Puzzle
« on: Tuesday 09 December 25 16:25 GMT (UK)  »
Edward Kerruish Moore was born 18 January 1895 and Registered by his School Teacher Father
In Salford March Quarter 1895 Vol 8d page 69
Mother's Maiden Name = Christian
Father was John Kerruish Moore who married Margaret Ann Christian
John's Mother was Maiden Name Kerruish
Edward Birth Certificate shows John Registered the Baby's Name as Edward Christian Moore copy just downloaded
But the Typed GRO Registration March 1895 Index shows Edward Kerruish Moore -  when it wasn't  - why not Edward Christian?  - Puzzled. - He used Edward Kerruish Moore from 1901 Census to his Death 25 April 1918 - Most Odd
Any Explanations ?
