Oxfordshire / Re: Elizabeth Heaver 1810? birth date help please
« on: Thursday 02 April 15 11:26 BST (UK)  »
There is a helpful baptism entry for Elizabeth HEAVER in the parish records for Henley St Mary as transcribed by the Oxfordshire Family History Society. She was baptised there on 1 April 1810, the daughter of John and Mary HEAVER. The baptism entry also records her date of birth as 13 March 1810 and her mother's maiden name as BOND.

I cannot see an Oxfordshire marriage between a John HEAVER and a Mary BOND, but another reply has indicated a marriage with those names in 1809 in Sonning, which is on the opposite, Berkshire, side of the Thames from Henley.

Oxfordshire / Re: Christian JUFFS - Eynsham
« on: Thursday 18 December 14 11:29 GMT (UK)  »
There is only one Christian J*FFS in the Oxfordshire Family History Society search suite, and she is Christian JEFFS, baptised in Hanborough (a parish bordering Eynsham) on 27 June 1756, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth.

I have not managed to find a marriage record for Thomas and Elizabeth JEFFS. The couple did have six other children baptised in Hanborough:
Mary: baptised 19 March 1758
Richard: baptised 11 November 1759
Elizabeth: baptised 17 January 1762
Katharine: baptised 1 April 1764
Charlotte: baptised 24 August 1766
Katharine: baptised 11 April 1768

Also, there is a baptism in Eynsham on 21 October 1750 for Thomas JUFFS, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth. It seems likely that this is the same family.

I found a couple of further mentions of Thomas JEFFS. Thomas JEFFS from Ensham [Eynsham] was buried in Hanborough on 5 August 1804, aged 76. And on 11 May 1779 Thomas JEFFS a widower from Eynsham married Mary HITCHINS a spinster otp at Oxford St Cross.

Hope this helps!

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Thomas Edward Burch Witney Oxfordshire

Using the Oxfordshire Family History Society Search Suite, there is a baptism in Witney for a Thomas BIRCH on 13 April 1798, the son of Thomas and Esther. However...

The only other BIRCH/ BURCH record I could find in Witney around that time was the baptism of Maria BIRCH on 26 November 1800, the daughter of John and Esther. I could not find a marriage anywhere in Oxfordshire for a Thomas (or a John) BIRCH/ BURCH to an Esther.

I fear this is not as hopeful as you would have liked.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Upper Heyford Parish Registers - Bateman
« on: Thursday 20 November 14 14:27 GMT (UK)  »
From the Oxfordshire Family History Society parish register transcripts for Upper Heyford:

Ann Elizabeth BATEMAN baptised 3 February 1833, daughter of Thomas, a labourer, and Sarah.

Thomas BATEMAN baptised 17 May 1835, son of Thomas, a labourer, and Sarah.

Thomas BATEMAN, aged 4 years, buried 8 October 1839.

Happy to help!

Using the Oxfordshire Family History Society search suite, I think I may be able to help on this one.

An Elizabeth WILLIAMS was baptised in Hanborough on 9 October 1808, the daughter of George and Christian from Ensham [Eynsham].

Christian LEIGH (LAY), daughter of Thomas and Christian was baptised in Eynsham on 5 August 1787, which provides a link to the Thomas LAY who let the will.

The only possible marriage I could find was between George WILLIAMS and Christian Ann LEE in Oxford St Ebbe on 24 August 1807. The couple are described as "lodgers", as are many of the couples there at that time.

I could not find any other children for George and Christian WILLIAMS in Handborough or anywhere else in Oxfordshire, nor could I find any obvious burial records for the couple.

I hope this helps.

Oxfordshire / Re: Joseph Garrett

Eric,

I have had a look at OFHS records but with little success.

The Sophia Ingrimes GARRETT you mentioned was buried at Balscote on 6 December 1850 aged just 8 days.

The closest match I could find for a Joseph GARRETT born in Oxfordshire in 1839 was the Joseph GARRETT, son of William and Esther, baptised in Wardington on 9 August 1840, but he was ruled out in earlier posts. There is another Joseph GARRETT baptised in Wardington on 3 August 1845; this one was the son of James and Harriett.

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: west cuddesdon

Ian,

Charles WEST married Sarah HENTON at Cuddeson on 24 September 1831. The only further information on the Oxfordshire Family History Society transcript is that the witnesses were Martha STONE and Henry YOUNG.

I did wonder whether Sarah was the Sarah SMITH who had married Simeon HENTON at Cuddeson on 20 December 1830, a marriage at which Charles WEST was a witness (as was a Sarah HARPER), but Simeon and Sarah HENTON had several children baptised later in the 1830s. The Sarah HENTON who married Charles WEST is probably the Sarah HINTON, daughter of Joseph and Jane, baptised at Cuddesdon on 22 May 1814, who was the younger sister of Simeon HINTON/ HENTON.

Claire,

Unfortunately the transcripts of the Glympton parish registers by the Oxfordshire Family History Society stop just before the period you are interested in (baptisms in 1863, marriages in 1859 and burials in 1862).
