I just discovered my 2*great grandmother (Ann Phoenix) was the proprietor of a boarding-house at this address (listed in 1865 City Directory).
I realise necro-posting may be frowned upon, but I'd just like to add my thanks to stanmapstone for providing a location.

The baptism record (4 October 1801) for Elizabeth Bennet Brooks (my 3* Great Grandmother) is now at http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/SearchResults.pl?RecordType=Baptisms&RecordID=13156500&v=MTQyNzYxMzk3NjozNjU1MjkzNTg0OGZmZmIwMGVlNWQ0NWIwYjY2YTgxNWYyNzA5YjM5

seems like they change their search engine far too often :(

Many thanks. The Gresford site has names, dates, and cemetery indexes - perfect.

lol ... thanks, but I have enough "throwbacks" in my own family without trying to find any more  ;)

I haven't researched them as yet ... they weren't in the centre on my interests being 1st & removed cousins of the people I was researching. I realise how one mistake can spread like a virus through multiple trees [one of my ancestors has birth/death dates thru multiple online trees imported from a similarly named American woman]. I take trees as hints that need to be confirmed by records, so unless there's clear info from census/bmd/probate/etc I take unsourced trees with a pinch of salt.

That said, there is surely a rationale behind the establishment of Gresford, NSW and clues to that may help in establishing any connections.

Oh, and careless researchers ... I just love seeing possible relations disappear from my radar because the quoted sources "prove" they changed parents, and counties, between birth and first census :)

Denbighshire / Gresford, Denbighshire vs Gresford, New South Wales
« on: Tuesday 17 December 13 20:42 GMT (UK)  »
I have come across several persons in online family trees mid 19 C. that have birth as Gresford, Denbighshire and death as Gresford, NSW. Is this more likely a fault of inattentive name recognition software use, or was Gresford, NSW established/settled/colonised by mutliple families from Gresford, Denbighshire? If so, are there details to be found?

One interesting aspect of DNA for Europeans shows we have twice as much "Neandertal" DNA than we do "Homo Sapien" DNA.
.....

I think that should be twice as much Neanderthal DNA as the average homo sapiens sapiens does. I seriously doubt anyone believes Europeans are two thirds Neanderthal.

Thanks, I now have records of conviction in 1819 (David), although not the circumstances, and I have convictions (along with accomplice David Roberts), Justicia in Woolwich, Isabella to VDL Jul-Nov 1833, three convict musters, Tickets of Leave ('41 & '42) and pardons ('42 & '47). The Edward "Challnor" death in '61, Vic. is as close to finding anything that matches both Edward and the Police Gazette notice.

As far as the rest of their families - I have substantial info on their sister Christina Challenor Richardson's descendants, and both David's wife Jane Tiltson's ancestors, and their [only child] son James' descendants - which include me.

Missing info on Edward's wife and daughters [ignoring infant death of son] - all I have is unsourced names and dates ... ditto for Edward and David's parents.

My main interest in David is his history pre 1819 and post 1842 - the circumstances of his trial for Murder/manslaughter and if there was any sign of him in the Aust. colonies after his pardon.
